Welcome to Episode 2123, where we present a session recording from the wine2wine Business Forum 2023. Today’s episode is entitled “Chefs and Wine: A complicated relationship” and features Gurvinder Bhatia and Gino Colangelo. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide. About the session: This session explores the importance of a chef’s relationship with wine, through the eyes of professionals in the restaurant sector as well as consumers. Is it necessary for a great chef to also be well educated in wine? Should chefs and sommeliers work together to create menus, or is the food the chef’s primary focus and the wine should be left to the somms and the consumers? Based upon the results of a survey conducted earlier this year, we reveal the opinions of a wide variety of wine professionals, discussing everything from how do diners choose a restaurant and is the wine list important to that choice, all the way to how extensive and diverse restaurant wine lists should be. About the hosts: Gino Colangelo is the founder and president of Colangelo & Partners, the leading wine-focused PR & communications agency in the US with domestic clients as well as clients from around the globe. Gino’s particular interest and focus is Italian wine. He and his team work with both private companies (Arnaldo Caprai, Frescobaldi, Ornellaia, Pasqua and many others) and consortia and other trade groups (Chianti Classico, Langhe Prosecco DOC, Sicilia DOC, Slow Wine and many more). Gurvinder Bhatia is the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Quench Magazine - North America’s longest-running and Canada’s most widely distributed wine and food publication.
