The Dangers and Benefits of Alkaline Water
Today, we’re going to talk about the potential dangers and benefits of alkaline water. Natural water from a well or spring is alkaline. It’s alkaline because it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium. Many people believe that things that are acidic are unhealthy and things that are alkaline are healthy. But that’s not altogether true. We have a lot of different acids in our bodies that have many important functions. We don’t need to worry about alkalizing the body. The body regulates the pH in different areas. For example, your blood should be slightly alkaline, but your stomach should be very acidic. It’s possible to get alkaline water created by a machine that uses electricity to alter it instead of using minerals to alkalize it. If you drink alkaline water that's created artificially, you’re going to alter the pH in the stomach. Potential side effects of alkaline water made artificially can include: • Heartburn • Acid reflux • Gas • GERD • Infection • Hair loss • Heart arrhythmias However, natural water, like alkaline spring water, has no side effects. Alkalizing the stomach could lead to a deficiency in stomach acids. The stomach should be very acidic to help you break down protein, absorb minerals and vitamin B12, and kill pathogens. As we age, we lose stomach acid. Antacids also weaken stomach acid. But, low stomach acid is the root cause of symptoms like heartburn, GERD, and acid reflux. Alkalizing the stomach instead of acidifying it could worsen these symptoms and lead to many other serious side effects. I’ve found that I can digest better when I drink acidic water, like carbonated water—especially if I add a teaspoon of either apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. Overall, alkaline water has certain health benefits because it contains minerals. But alkaline water is only beneficial if it’s natural and not created by a machine.

The Root Causes of Depression
There is no evidence that depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain involving serotonin. It has been found that SSRIs can temporarily help increase serotonin in the brain. However, drug trials have shown that these anti-depressants were almost indistinguishable from the placebo in treating depression. SSRIs come with a lot of side effects, including serious side effects involving the sex organs. Psychiatric drugs also come with a black box warning, meaning there is a high risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Does depression cause body problems, or do body problems cause depression? I think it could be both—but we’re going to focus on the body problems and deficiencies that could cause depression. Potential causes of depression: 1. Insomnia 2. Chronic fatigue 3. Stress 4. Nutritional deficiencies (vitamin D, vitamin B12, vitamin B1, magnesium, DHA) 5. Lack of exercise

The DOPAMINE Myth
Let’s talk about dopamine. Dopamine has many functions. It’s involved in body movement, sleep cycles, gastrointestinal motility, food intake, learning, kidney function, and blood pressure. Dopamine is associated with behaviors and certain emotions. However, people on the lower end of the emotional scale aren't going to just have low dopamine but also other neurotransmitters and hormones. Dopamine is increased with pleasure, but it’s also increased with stress and pain. Conditions related to low dopamine include: • Parkinson’s • Schizophrenia • ADD or ADHD • Depression Medications used to treat the above conditions can deplete other neurotransmitters and have potential side effects. Dopamine isn’t a single molecule that works on its own to create an effect. It’s a system that creates many different effects. Trying to increase dopamine without looking at the bigger picture isn’t going to work. Here are some action steps you can take if you have low dopamine: 1. Get rid of artificial stimulus 2. Balance dopamine and other neurotransmitters 3. Consume a little more animal protein and fat 4. Support your gut microbiome 5. Get plenty of vitamin C (leafy greens or sauerkraut) 6. Get plenty of copper (shellfish or seafood) Tips to help balance dopamine and other neurotransmitters naturally: • Exercise consistently • Get outside • Get plenty of sun or vitamin D3 • Involve yourself in music or the arts • Do things you like • Get connected with other people • Get plenty of tyrosine (consume high-quality animal protein)

The Benefits of Iodine, Side-Effects and More
Today, I want to cover some interesting information on iodine that goes way beyond what it does for the thyroid. Most of your iodine is stored in your thyroid. However, iodine is important for many other organs. The RDAs for iodine in the US are 150 mcg. But, in Japan, on average, people consume 1000 to 3000 mcg of iodine daily. They also have fewer problems associated with iodine deficiency than we do in the US. That being said, excess iodine can create just as many problems as a deficiency in iodine. I think it’s most beneficial to get the iodine you need from food. Shellfish and sea kelp are rich in iodine. But there is also iodine in eggs, dairy, iodized salt, and sea salt. Unless you consume foods rich in iodine, either from the sea or from vegetables grown on the coastline, chances are you’re not getting enough iodine in your diet. Iodine may help with various conditions, including: • Estrogen dominance • Heavy periods • Fibrocystic breasts • Ovarian cysts • Endometriosis • Fibroids • Prostate enlargement • PCOS • Cystic acne • TB • Croup • Asthma • Toenail fungus • Warts and skin tags • Thyroid conditions • Weight gain • Brain fog • Feeling cold (excessively) • Dry skin and hair • Constipation • Depression Top causes of iodine deficiency: • Consuming excessive amounts of raw cruciferous vegetables • Consuming millet, soy, or sweet potatoes • The vegan diet • Pregnancy and lactation • Low-salt diets • Fluoride • Bromide • Perchlorate in water • Nitrates

Let’s talk about how to detox the liver naturally and healthily. The liver doesn’t hold or store toxins—it gets rid of toxins. The #1 Exercise to Lose Belly Fat (Easily)
Today, I want to share some essential information on how to get rid of belly fat fast. Exercise contributes to about 15% of belly fat loss, and diet contributes about 85%. The first step to burning fat is to switch the body’s fuel source from glucose to fat. Whether you burn sugar or fat depends on one hormone: insulin. If your insulin goes up, you’ll burn sugar, and you won’t burn fat. If your insulin goes down, then you can burn fat. Fat calories don’t influence insulin to any significant degree. But that doesn’t mean you can just consume unlimited amounts of fat and lose weight. You also have to reduce your carbohydrates to force the body to burn fat. Once you start burning fat fuel, the body will develop a more available type of energy called ketones. Ketones are the byproduct of fat—energy your body can use as fuel. Eating also increases insulin. To get into fat-burning mode, you need to lower your insulin by reducing your carbohydrates and doing intermittent fasting. It’s also important to remember that even a little bit of carbs can stop you from burning fat. Consistency is key with this fat loss program. But, if you do this program 100 percent, your body will become an efficient fat-burning machine. Getting into a state of fat-burning can help reduce insulin resistance, which may help correct a slow metabolism and help you lose stubborn weight. With these problems out of the way, you’ll notice a lot of success when you add exercise. To help improve insulin resistance, try adding one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to your water and drink that two to three times a day using a straw. The best exercise to burn belly fat is walking. Walking can help you lose belly fat even more than doing high-intensity exercise. High-intensity interval training can help improve certain hormones and is essential for building muscle. But walking is better for losing fat. It’s essential to walk an hour or two hours a day. Try using a pedometer and working on increasing your steps to 8,000 to 10,000 steps per day. The most beneficial thing to do is walking along with high-intensity interval training. However, you will get more benefits out of walking.
