Let the breath radiate throughout your body, opening areas of stress. PAUSE Now, see that breath opening and relaxing your mind, creating pathways of connections while you’re calm and peaceful. PAUSE Take a minute, And, imagine, if you can, A clock on the wall. A clock with hour, second, and minute hands PAUSE Keep watching the clock, observing as each second and minute advance. If a stray thought creeps into your mind, gently dust it away and re-focus on the clock. PAUSE Now, observe your level of focus. Are you able to dust away extraneous thoughts? Or, do they keep interrupting you? Avoid judging yourself or stressing over your thoughts. Just observe, breathe, and focus. PAUSE Take a deep breath, and shift your focus away from the clock. Observe how your body feels. Are you less stressed? Continue reflecting on how focused you were watching the clock. PAUSE Breathe deeply again. And, this time, visualize how productive you would be with this level of focus throughout your day. PAUSE Now, allow yourself to think about how much less stressed you would be if you practiced this daily. What do you think? PAUSE Now, imagine having a secret toolbox in your mind, A toolbox you can open at will. And, inside, the toolbox is your mindfulness practice– your clock to focus on. Look closely at the toolbox and observe how you open it. PAUSE Take a deep breath now, and acknowledge the power of your mindfulness toolbox. Give thanks for its ability to enhance your focus, lessen your stress, and to help you manage time every day. Sitting In Discomfort

This feeling of being unsettled, Is forcing me to pause. PAUSE What was the drop that started, This tsunami of anger and pain? Perhaps it doesn’t matter, What’s risen now needs a name. PAUSE It tingles and it hiccups, Shards of glass in my throat. All I can do is sit with it, Unpack it, and emote. PAUSE Slowing, slowing, slowing down, Detaching from thoughts. Calming, calming, calming down, Breathing unties the knots. LONG PAUSE As the moments whisper by, Discomfort slowly gives way, To the truth of what is going on, There’s a part in it I play. PAUSE With gentle grace, I explore myself, The stories, the ego, the words. Let me see, What love would do, What solution now occurs. PAUSE Strip away the pain, Strip away the fault, Dear universe, show me how, To dissolve this dark discomfort, As love infuses me now. LONG PAUSE There it is, The seed of peace, That knows no matter what, I’ll be okay, I’ll learn from this, I’ll transcend this painful rut. PAUSE I end this practice knowing that, There’s actions I must take. Forgiveness, softness, gentle words, Admitting my mistake. PAUSE So breathe deep now, Bring hand to heart, And know that you are loved. This moment is, A brand new start, Feel the love in you flood. The Jellyfish Takes a Break (Wisdom and Water Animals)

PAUSE Draw in another breath, and feel it moving from your center to all your body, bringing relaxation to all of it. PAUSE Now, give yourself permission to safely and comfortably submerge into the ocean. Know that you are warm and comfortable and can breathe with ease. PAUSE And while submerged, a creature appears. A creature with silky tentacles flowing behind it like the train of a bride. PAUSE Light reflects off the luminous creature, along with a kaleidoscope of ethereal colors such as pearl, blue, and purple. It is a jellyfish, a creature both real and surreal at the same time. PAUSE You observe the jellyfish, as it contracts and glides, contracts and glides. It is both fragile and strong at the same time. PAUSE Moments later, the jellyfish stops gliding, and just floats hovering like a celestial being in the deep blue of the ocean. PAUSE As you watch the jellyfish, you are struck by how this iridescent creature– Just stops. Just takes a breaks. And feels no pressure to resume swimming until it's ready. There is something powerful for you in this awareness. PAUSE So, breathe. Breathe and bring the spirit of the jellyfish into your consciousness with an intention. “I will give myself permission to stop and take a break.” Now, sit with the intention. PAUSE Let it really become part of you, so that at any time you feel the need for a break, you will act the like the jellyfish and give yourself that break. Remember the intention and the spirit of the jellyfish each and every day from now on. The Pelican is Patient (Wisdom and Water Animals)

And take a moment of silence to just observe your thoughts. PAUSE Now, breathe again, and visualize a beautiful woven basket where you place all those thoughts in it, so you are ready for meditation. PAUSE Take a moment, and envision yourself on a beach just comfortably sitting and taking in the surroundings. PAUSE And in the distance, you see a group of brown pelicans bobbing up and down in the water enjoying their time together quietly PAUSE A little while later, the pelicans lift out of the water and form a V, as they circle around the beach. There is no squawking or noise. It’s as if they all just connected and understood. You understand and feel the beauty in that. PAUSE As you continue to watch the pelicans, you notice their patient approach to catching their food. They fly a few feet above the water, Gazing into it, waiting for the right opportunity. Then, when the opportunity arises, they dive. They scoop up a fish with their beaks, and tip back their necks to swallow it. They return to patiently flying and looking for more food together. PAUSE Moments later, the pelicans change directions and fly out toward the horizon, the wings open and gliding, forming a silhouette against the sun. PAUSE Now, draw in a deep breath, and let the energy of the pelicans into you. Feel their patience and connectedness to each other. PAUSE Now, take a moment, and allow yourself to create an intention from the pelican’s energy. “I will approach life with patience for myself and others.” PAUSE Draw in another breath, and let the intention really into your heart. As it settles there, know that you can access it, and the essence of the pelican, at any time. It is yours always.
