We at Across the Cline and SciComm@UCR, would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of the land, water, and air on which we record this podcast: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today, we are joined by Dr. Jalondra Davis, mermaid and assistant professor of English at UC Riverside, and Dani Nembhard, a PhD candidate in Environmental Sociology at James Cook University, to discuss the role of lore and culture in our connections to the environment, how racial injustices and dislocation shape these connections and how we approach conservation and climate change, and finding hope in creating new lore.
