We at Across the Cline and SciComm@UCR, would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of the land, water, and air on which we record this podcast: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. This place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including our colleagues, guests, and community, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands. We’re closing out 2023 with a splash as we dive into the world of Black mermaids and environmental justice! Today, we are joined by Dr. Jalondra Davis, mermaid and assistant professor of English at UC Riverside, and Dani Nembhard, a PhD candidate in Environmental Sociology at James Cook University, to discuss the role of lore and culture in our connections to the environment, how racial injustices and dislocation shape these connections and how we approach conservation and climate change, and finding hope in creating new lore. To learn more about our guests, please connect with them at: Dr. Jalondra Davis: Website Instagram The Merwomanist Podcast Dani Nembhard:  LinkedIn Intro and outro music was "Traveling in your mind" by Loyalty Freak Music.
