Welcome to Episode 2096, in which Cynthia Chaplin interviews Lucia Palm in this installment of Voices on the Italian Wine Podcast. Lucia Palm is a certified sommelier who teaches wine education on social media in a fun and engaging way. About today’s guest: Lucia first became interested in wine while attending the Culinary Institute of America in 2012 during a mandatory wine class. After graduating she decided to pursue a career in hospitality working in fine dining restaurants while continuing her wine studies. While working at a 3-star Michelin restaurant in Napa, she took her introductory course through the Court of Masters with Thomas Keller only a few rows ahead! A year later she moved to New York and became a certified sommelier while working at a 1-star Michelin restaurant. After deciding she wanted to be her own boss, she started posting her recipes with the occasional wine pairings and started landing recipe development jobs, along with features in the top online food magazines. In November 2021, Lucia decided to use her wine expertise and started posting wine education videos on TikTok and within 2 weeks had her first viral video at over 400,000 views. With consistent hard work, Lucia has amassed 108k followers on Tik Tok and 102k on instagram by making wine fun and approachable through wine recommendations. Lucia was recently named the Top 10 Social Media Accounts to follow by Wine Enthusiast, has been a guest on the Drinking on the Job podcast, and has worked with many prominent brands. Armando talks about local viticultural techniques such as pergola veronese and the winery’s rediscovery of two indigenous grapes: Oseleta and Croatina. In this episode Monty Waldin interviews Puru Manvi, owner of the Manvi winery together with his wife Sudha in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano area. Puru and Sudha left their career in the banking sector in Switzerland, Canada, and India (among other countries) to move to Italy and become vignerons, acquiring the winery in 2015. Manvi is the smallest winery in the Consorzio Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and its owners are very much focussed on quality and they have been organic since its previous owners. Puru tells Monty about the location of his vineyards and some changes he brought about in the wine-making, for instance the use of French oak barrels instead of barrique.
