She was fascinated by why some foods are considered good while others are considered bad. At one point, Risa was having fertility issues. She found out that she had a low-functioning thyroid.  The doctor gave Risa medication that she was supposed to take for the rest of her life.  Eventually, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Risa had no idea why her thyroid was attacking itself.  [07:15] What Risa Will Test For When It Comes To Thyroid Issues  Risa tests for all nine markers of the thyroid.  Then, Risa will help people create T4; it is 93% of the equation. T4 needs to convert to T3; that is your active thyroid hormone, and it’s only 7% of the equation.  When Risa tests for hormones, she looks at free and total. Free means it’s usable to the body, and the total is not useable.  Plus, Risa will look at reverse T3; it’s when stress hormones could be pulling T3 and reversing it.  Also, Risa looks at T3 uptake. It’s when sex hormones can compete with the thyroid. Lastly, Risa looks at TPO and thyroglobulin antibodies. [12:10] Risa Explains What Is Wrong With The Word “Diet”  People associate diet with deprivation.  We should not be depriving ourselves.  If your children are hungry, you feed them.  Diet has been marketed as a temporary deprivation for weight loss. You want that number at 1.5.  Anything 2.0 or higher is insulin resistant.  Inside every cell has mitochondria. The fuel for mitochondria is sugars.  Those receptors are closed, broken, or hindered if you have insulin resistance.  To gain weight, you need to close those cells.  Another way to gain weight is to give your cells more than it needs. To lose weight, give cells less than they need.  [43:00] Why You Should Not Stay In Ketosis Forever  The two primary goals of living organisms are to survive and to procreate. Plus, she has additional training to be board certified in geriatrics.  Dr. Nolte would see people in their sixties who were acting like they were eighty.  The care and services that Dr. Nolte would provide seemed like it was too little and too late.  Insulin resistance is at the core of all the conditions that Dr. Nolte treats. The longer you hold off making those lifestyle changes, the harder it will be to get healthier.  The longer we continue to make poor decisions, the easier those decisions are to maintain. [10:15] The Role of Insulin In Health and Disease  Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas. It is a good thing and a vital hormone.  Insulin is an anabolic hormone, meaning its role is to build things up. Insulin’s role is to move blood sugar, or blood glucose from your bloodstream, into your cells to be either used as energy right away or to be stored in the form of muscle glycogen, liver glycogen, adipose tissue, or fat tissue. Exercise will reduce blood sugar. You shouldn’t focus on calories. Instead, you should focus on blood sugar for weight loss.  When insulin continues to go up, your cells will become resistant to that insulin. Eventually, you will start to see blood sugars go up.  Remember, 88% of adults have insulin resistance. If you learn how to live a low insulin lifestyle, you’ll lose weight and prevent disease.  [22:50] Your Metabolism Will Slow Down With Chronic Caloric Restriction  A fascinating study showed chronic caloric restriction slows your metabolism for six months to four years. At that point, Bronson started to question what he was doing.  Eventually, Bronson realized that if you aren’t moving forward, you are moving backward. [05:30] How Bronson Started To Change His Lifestyle  First, Bronson stopped eating french fries.  He was eating three to four servings of french fries a day.  It took a year for Bronson to stop thinking about fries.  Plus, Bronson would eat out all of the time. So, he needed to change that habit.    [14:30] How To Let Go of Something To Grow and Improve  You have to live within who you think you are. If you don’t like where you’re at, you need to change your reality. Make the changes you need to be in the reality you dream about.  Overall, you have to let something go in order to move forward.  [16:40] Eat More Protein and Build Lean Muscle Mass  Bronson recommends reading Keto by Maria Emmerich. Protein will build, whereas carbs and fat will be fuel.  Also, Bronson says to check out The P:E Diet: https://pedietbook.com/ You don’t want to have your protein lower than your fuel.  Take your lean mass, turn it into grams, and that’s how much protein you want as a minimum, and that’s the maximum that you should have for fat and carbs combined.  [21:50] The Difference Between Animal-Based Protein and Plant-Based Protein   Animal-based protein is bioavailable; your body needs to be able to use that protein.  If you get protein from plants, your body has to do extra work.  For example, if you’re getting most of your nutrients from plants, then you need more vitamin C because you’re not getting as much collagen.  There’s a bunch of extra work you need to do when you’re getting protein from plants.  [28:40] Why Bronson Is A Huge Fan of Living a Carnivore Lifestyle   Bronson follows a carnivore diet, but he has butter and eggs.  He eats about eight eggs a day.  Bronson loves cheese, but it doesn’t love him back.  Before Bronson started his health journey, he was lactose intolerant.  However, he can now have dairy with no gastric distress.  Right now, he eats a lot of lamb, sausage, and eggs.  [36:15] Bronson Gives Tips For Increasing Your Muscle Mass   First, you need to realize that it doesn’t take a lot.  All it takes is increasing your current load.  You need to help your body manage external stress. Nutrition and exercise are 50/50.  You can eat perfectly, but if you aren’t using your body, you can’t handle anything externally.  The more you can improve your body, the more you will keep progressing.  [43:40] Here’s The Marker You Want For Your Skeletal Muscle Mass  45% skeletal muscle mass is what men should have.  40% skeletal muscle mass for women. You need a body composition scan.  Bronson weighs 185 and has a muscle mass of 93 pounds which is 51%.  Instead of focusing on weight loss, focus on building muscle mass.  You don’t lose weight to get healthy. For Clearing Free Radicals Spirulina is an effortless way to get the nutrients you need to give you energy.  The true energy that you get from spirulina is really at the cellular level. When your cells have energy, you’re getting better digestion, reduced inflammation, more free radicals, and you can think clearer.  Inside the mitochondria is a second membrane where ATP production occurs.  Virtually no antioxidants can make their way into that inner membrane.  There's nothing that can make its way into the inner membrane to get rid of those free radicals except something called S.O.D.   The highest concentration of S.O.D. is in spirulina. [13:00] Spirulina Could Be The Missing Piece To Getting The Mitochondria To Function Better Spirulina is called cyanobacterial; they are your mitochondria.  Mitochondria in our cells came from the cyanobacteria, effectively spirulina. When you have spirulina, it's like introducing your body to itself. If you look at the shape of spirulina and you look at the mitochondria, they are identical.  When you take something identical to your DNA, your body knows what to do.  [17:50] How Chlorophyll Can Heal Cellular Damage Inside The Body  When you have free radicals, they cause what's called oxidative stress. Oxidative stress will cause cellular damage.  With cellular damage, nutrients cannot flow into the cells, and toxins cannot flow out of the cells. So, you will end up with more free radicals inside the cell, causing severe damage.  Eventually, this can cause rogue cells, leading to cancer.  Chlorella and spirulina are excellent at correcting that because they have the highest chlorophyll concentration in the world.  Healthy fats will heal your cell walls. Chlorophyll is a fat-based pigment.  [23:25] The Reasons You Should Take Algae Instead of Fish Oil  Spirulina is higher in GLA and omegas than fish oil.  Fish get their omegas from algae. So cut out the middle man by going straight to the algae.  Algae is cleaner, and it doesn’t go any farther down the food chain.  Plus, it is already rancid by the time you get fish oil from the store. With Catharine’s algae, you’ll get anti-inflammatory benefits. Also, it never goes rancid, and it never goes bad.  [32:30] Does Algae Increase Your Glucose Levels?  Algae do not decrease your ketones, and it does not increase your glucose. Catharine has tested it herself with people who have CGM monitors.  Algae has been used for decades for people who have diabetes.   Catharine’s products are taken by people looking to reverse their diabetes. Unfortunately, we know more about our cell phones than we do our bodies.  When something goes wrong, people run to conventional medical sources.  Instead, we need to learn how our body functions and what it requires to function at an optimal level.  [37:50] You Can’t Have An Iron Overload When Taking Spirulina or Chlorella The nice thing about algae is that it's what's called an adaptogen.  It won't be absorbed in your body if you do not need that nutrient. However, this is not the case with iron supplements. Catharine urges people not to take iron supplements because you can easily get overloaded with iron.  The iron in the spirulina or chlorella comes from an organic source. So, your body can recognize it and know what to do with it.  [39:20] Taking Algae Can Replace Your Mineral Supplements  Spirulina and chlorella are loaded with minerals like magnesium and potassium.  When your body makes S.O.D, it needs manganese, zinc, and copper. All of these minerals are in spirulina.  Many people will use chlorella because it helps recover your health and helps remove toxins.  Take chlorella for detox instead of activated charcoal. Activated charcoal will pull out all minerals, not just the bad stuff.  [41:20] Algae Is A Great Biohack Before Red Light Therapy  Red light therapy stimulates mitochondrial growth; it also reduces inflammation. Bacteria have chloroplasts in them, and they generate energy from light.  When you take spirulina or chlorella before red light therapy, you stimulate the mitochondria even more. The light in the sun gives us all the energy to grow plants and for the plants to perform photosynthesis.  Those plants are cleaning our environment and making oxygen for us to breathe, and we are burning the oxygen as fuel.  When you understand electromagnetic radiation, it is frequencies of energy. The energy from the sun is feeding animals, plants, and humans.  All information comes from sunlight either, directly or indirectly.  [10:20] Should You Go Outside and Get More Sunshine Today?  You should be outside no matter where you live. [19:30] There Are Over 600,000 Mitochondria Fertilization In One Cell The brain, the eyes, the heart, and the ovaries have the highest concentration of mitochondria.  In fact, an egg has 600,000 mitochondria fertilization in one cell.  You have to kick start a consciousness in one cell. The night before ovulation, the egg takes 20 billion zinc atoms into it. The egg has more mitochondria than the brain; it’s magic.   [21:20] Fertility Rates Are Declining: Here’s What You Can Do Women are getting pregnant older. Fertility is continuing to decline.  We are poisoning our eggs and our sperm over generations. There are fewer pregnancies and fewer healthy children.  Fertility rates will plummet because of our toxic environment and poor nutrition.  You have to find ways to lower insulin.  Practice fasting so you can get rid of toxins.  [27:50] The Real Reason Autism Rates Are Increasing In Our Population  Evolutionarily speaking, the genetics of autism predates the split from humans to primates.  Prior to the DSM removing Asperger's, autistic people would have been diagnosed with Asperger's. People with Asperger's would have been the people who are putting cities together, building things, and staying by the fire.  People with autism now have neuroinflammation. There are too many pesticides and heavy metals.  Plus, there are too many providers who don’t understand the difference between neuroinflammation and autism.  [32:40] Why Mental Health Is Decreasing and How You Can Lower Inflammation In The Brain  Water follows carbs. If you have too much sugar and alcohol, you better spend some time fasting to get rid of the inflammation. If your rings are too tight, your brain is inflamed.  When you’re inflamed, you are puffing up your nerves like you’re puffing up your fingers.  If you’re not giving yourself the right building blocks, your brain will stay inflamed. So, you need to lower your inflammation through nutrition and fasting.  [46:40] You Need To Get More Vitamin D From Sunlight  You want your vitamin D between 65 and 85 by the end of the summer.  If your vitamin D is 12, you will need a supplement. Once you open your brain and realize you are supposed to be naked in the sun, then you will use that in a 365-day cycle to heal yourself.
