Aston Villa 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

Aston Villa 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

A change in formation and personnel, but the same old result. Following a reasonable showing in the first half, a moment of madness from Jonjo Shelvey gifted a goal to Bertrand Traore. The Reds (yellows) were up against it from that moment on; substitutions were unsuccessful, and the misery was compounded when Forest went down to ten men after using all their subs. Ollie Watkins sealed the result in stoppage time. Steven and Tom discuss the match after getting home from Villa Park, and having a night to sleep on it. Naturally, they discuss the pressure on the manager, and the performance of some of the team, and the effects of injuries as we lose Kouyate and Niakhate again. We also get a view from the opposition, as we are joined by Neil from For The Love Of Paul McGrath. Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United: the play-offs revisited

Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United: the play-offs revisited

If you're of a nervous disposition, you might want to give this one a miss! A couple of years ago, during the nationwide lockdown, Rich Ferraro, Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands reviewed Forest's previous play-off campaigns, including the classic but heartbreaking encounters with Sheffield United in 2003. We'll be back with our match reports from both of this year's semi-finals against the Blades, and will be hoping for better fortune this time. "No more 2003": The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, March 2022

Sheffield United in a two-legged Championship play-off semi-final? Nothing can go wrong there, can it? In our 70th podcast of the season (phew), we review the season just gone, thinking about the Steve Cooper Revolution, and how his tactics and management have made such a huge difference to our team's fortunes; we hear from a Blades fan and discuss how we definitely don't have PTSD from 19 years ago; and on a more positive note we choose our goals of the season, and players of the season. Even amongst all of that, there is time for a discussion about VAR and whether it would have made a positive difference to Forest's season, as well as hearing from Jeremy Davies with his final sketch this term. We also have time for some news from Fanhub and our final giveaway of the season: we will give out some Forest mugs, courtesy of our friends at The Terrace - just post a lovely review of our podcast on your app of choice, and send us a screenshot to forestramble@gmail.com by 6pm on Friday 20th May, and we will select four lucky winners that weekend. Hull City 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

Hull City 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

After a sterling run of results throughout April, some Reds fans would say that this has been a disappointing week to end the season, but in the space of 39 games Steve Cooper has turned the Reds around from relegation certainties to a place in the play-offs, where they will face Sheffield United. Rich Ferraro and Tom Newton discuss the performance of a much-changed Forest team, as the gaffer took the chance to rest many of his first choice XI (and he said that most of them were carrying injuries). As a result, the performance had an end-of-season, slightly disjointed feel, but the away side will still feel like they should have won the game as they took the lead through Brennan Johnson's stoppage time penalty, before Lewie Coyle (or was it Keane Lewis-Potter?) equalised for Hull just a minute later to consign the Reds to fourth position and a trip to Bramall Lane. We also hear the views of YouTuber Old Grandpa Joe, providing a Hull City perspective. AFC Bournemouth 1-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

AFC Bournemouth 1-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

The automatic promotion dream came to an end as Bournemouth's second half performance saw them take the points with a late goal from Kieffer Moore, who always scores against Forest. The Reds had some cause to be aggrieved after the linesman's flag wrongly denied them a certain penalty, and Steve Cooper was not impressed when the officials apologised to him afterwards. Steven Toplis and Baz review the match and the Reds' performance. In truth, the best team won on the night and you cannot argue that Bournemouth don't deserve it over 46 games - congratulations to them. We also send our very best wishes to Steve Cook and his family, after the awful news of Cookie Sr's cardiac arrest just before the game. Get well soon. Nottingham Forest 5-1 Swansea City: The 1865 Match Report

Nottingham Forest 5-1 Swansea City: The 1865 Match Report

A thumping victory from the Reds, but it could and should have been more. On a day when Bournemouth remained in pole position, Forest ensured that they were keeping the pressure on for the final automatic promotion place. Sam Surridge's hat-trick was the highlight, with Cyrus Christie's farcical own goal and Alex Mighten's scrambled effort ensuring that the Reds kept a healthy goal difference, as this could still be crucial. In this extended podcast, Rich Ferraro and Baz discuss a first half that was frankly insane, a second period in which Forest stamped their authority on the game, and the atmosphere before, during and after the match. We also discuss how the Reds will be feeling, and whether Bournemouth are rattled, before Tuesday night's head-to=head encounter, in what is surely the Reds' biggest game in years. Fulham 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

Fulham 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

An outstanding night for Forest as they battled and fought their way to a clean sheet and an excellent three points away to champions-elect Fulham. Philip Zinckernagel's scrambled goal (with an assist from the gaffer) was enough to secure the points, but that only tells half the story. Steven Toplis and Tom Newton discuss a famous night for Forest, with a home fans' view from Matt from the Fulham Focus podcast. The Reds are now within three points of second-placed Bournemouth, and level on goal difference; one game at a time ... one game at a time... Peterborough United 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

Peterborough United 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

A narrow win for Forest drew them one step closer to the play-offs but relegated plucky Peterborough United. Sam Surridge's goal just before half-time came after excellent work on the counter-attack from Philip Zinckernagel and Brennan Johnson, and despite the home team's continued efforts, Forest had enough to see the game out. The Maradona of the Midlands and Steven Toplis report on a victory that was very different from last week's thumping win over West Bromwich Albion. Nottingham Forest 4-0 West Bromwich Albion: The 1865 Match Report

Nottingham Forest 4-0 West Bromwich Albion: The 1865 Match Report

A thumping victory for Steve Cooper's Reds, as they bounced back from Good Friday defeat against Luton Town. Forest completely controlled most of the match, and goals from Johnson, Yates, Colback and Surridge grabbed the points. Jack Colback's effort has gone viral as a goal of the season contender, but did he really mean it? The visitors were bad-tempered, and although Steve Bruce grumbled about the incorrect award of a throw-in, it is difficult to overstate how poor his tactical setup was, even before Darnell Furlong's early red card for two bookings. The second half was not exciting to watch, but again, the Reds were in control as the Baggies barely got into the Forest half. Rich Ferraro and Steven Toplis review the match, with a view from the away end from Louis of the Baggies Podcast.
