«Hospital Verses: A brilliant album, offering us a slice of life-affirming rock`n`soul” (The Irish Times). “What a wild voice, what a rare and eminent storyteller” (Egon Holstad, iTromsø). Stefan Murphy, a true Dubliner, has had a long career playing punk rock and rock`n`roll in bands such as The Subtonics and The Mighty Stef. Nowadays he is on the road with his acoustic guitar playing songs from his latest album, “Hospital Verses”, as well as other songs from his many years in the music business. The audience at “Vangen Pling Plong” in Haugesund really got their money`s worth when the Irishman took the stage that evening. In this podcast you will get a taste of how it sounded live and understand why he blew us all away (all the acoustic song clips in this episode are live from “Pling Plong”). Before the concert I did this interview with the brilliant songwriter, who talked very openly about his personal struggles, including drug and alcohol abuse. Among other topics we discussed in this conversation were the football team St. Francis FC, how he really got into music, being on the road, living in America - and what music really means to him. Stefan Murphy, a great guy and a damn good performer, will be on the road with both his solo project and his other band, The Sleeveens, during the coming months. Don`t miss out on it!
