EP167 - How to Talk to Your Kids About Porn with Elizabeth Schroeder, EdD, MSW

Welcome to episode 167 of the Sexology Podcast! Today it’s my pleasure to welcome Elizabeth Schroeder, EdD, MSW to the podcast. In this episode Elizabeth speaks with me about sex education, the importance of good communication with your children about sex and ways in which parents can learn more to help their children.

Elizabeth Schroeder, EdD, MSW (she/her/hers), is an award-winning educator, trainer, program consultant and author specializing in sexuality education pedagogy and programming, LGBTQ+-affirming best practices, and working with adolescent cisgender boys. She has provided consultation to and direct education and training for schools, parent groups and youth-serving organizations in countries around the world for over 25 years. Most recently, Dr. Schroeder was the lead author on Rights, Respect, Responsibility, the first-ever K-12 sexuality education curriculum that is completely mapped to the National Sexuality Education Standards, for which she also served as a co-author.

Dr. Schroeder is the former executive director of Answer, a national sexuality education organization dedicated to providing and promoting comprehensive sexuality education to young people and the adults who teach them. She has also served as the associate vice president of education and training at Planned Parenthood of New York City, and, before that, manager of education and special projects at Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Dr. Schroeder was a co-founding editor of the American Journal of Sexuality Education, and has authored or edited numerous publications, including Sexuality Education: Theory and Practice with Dr. Clint Bruess and the four-part book series, Sexuality Education: Past, Present and Future with Dr. Judy Kuriansky. She is a frequently sought-out spokesperson in the news media on issues relating to sexual health education and youth development, having appeared on BBC’s “The Why Factor,” several NPR affiliates, and in The New York Times, CNN Online, The Huffington Post, among others. Dr. Schroeder speaks at conferences around the world on sexuality and adolescent development.
