Jury Duty: The Trials of Weinstein and Masterson — Trailer

Kary Antholis:

Beginning next Monday, October 24, we are going to pause our coverage of the attempted murder trial of Michael Barisone, and shift our attention to two high profile Los Angeles Trials. Season Seven of Jury Duty will focus on two sexual assault trials — the trials of Harvey Weinstein and Danny Masterson — which are taking place at the same time ON THE SAME FLOOR of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Courts Building in downtown LA. Two times per week, on Mondays and Thursdays, you will hear new episodes with reports from journalists who are in the courtrooms as these trials are happening. Here to introduce each of these trials are our correspondents Molly Miller and Brittany Bookbinder

Molly Miller:

Hi I’m Molly Miller covering the trial of Legendary Hollywood Mogul, Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein is currently serving a 23 year prison sentence after being convicted of rape and criminal sexual assault in New York in 2020. In his LA trial, which is expected to last six to eight weeks, he faces 4 counts each of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation, 2 counts of sexual battery by restraint, and one count of sexual penetration by use of force.

Brittany Bookbinder:

I’m Brittany Bookbinder. Down the hall from the Weinstein courtroom, Television actor Danny Masterson faces trial on three counts of forcible rape dating back to 2001 and 2003. Much of the media attention so far has focused on the fact that Masterson is a member of the Church of Scientology as were his alleged victims. While Judge Charlene Olmedo has taken pains to declare that Scientology is not on trial, there will be testimony at trial about the practices of Scientology as context for why the women waited a decade to report the alleged attacks to the police.

Kary Antholis:

So join us starting October 24 for Jury Duty: The Trials of Weinstein and Masterson on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. And if you want to get Season Seven’s episodes early and ad-free head over to our Jury Duty—Crime Story Patreon page.

S8 E196: The Trial of Alex Murdaugh: The Verdict and the Aftermath

In The Verdict and the Aftermath, we present our coverage of the verdict in the trial of Alex Murdaugh, as well as the aftermath of the case. Before we begin this final episode of Season 8 of Jury Duty, we want to let you know, that we are suspending publication of this Jury Duty Podcast, as well as further publication on our flagship website, CrimeStory.com, to focus our energies on other endeavors that are only possible because of the work we’ve done here at Jury Duty and over at CrimeStory.com. One of those new endeavors is a podcast produced by our sister company, Pleasant Run Productions. “Shadow of Hope” explores the history of the People of Hope, a Catholic Covenant Community. At their peak in the 1980s, the People of Hope took over a parish in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, clashed with local residents, and built the suburban equivalent of a compound.Over eight episodes, host Karen Ann Coburn tries to find out what led regular people – her neighbors, classmates, and friends – to commit their lives to this secretive group. In the process, she reveals the truth about life inside a Covenant Community and ponders the question, “What price are we willing to pay to belong to something bigger than ourselves?”Meanwhile, over nine seasons here at Jury Duty, we’ve covered the trials of Robert Durst, Kyle Rittenhouse, Travis and Gregory McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan (convicted for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery), former Olympic equestrian Michael Barrisone, Harvey Weinstein, Danny Masterson, OJ Simpson, and Alex Murdaugh. Over the last four and a half years, this podcast series has generated nearly five million downloads. For a more detailed and thorough overview of the work we’ve accomplished both at Jury Duty and across the Crime Story Media Endeavors, head over to our Farewell Page at CrimeStory.com. Most importantly, we want you to know that we are so grateful to all of you for following us on this journey, and we hope you will stay tuned for what comes next. Hosted on Acast.
