Cognitive dissonance is a big part of the healing journey once the relationship with a covert narcissist is long since over, that many of us suffer. It is essentially our brain trying to reprogram our experiences of reality as opposed to actual reality. It takes time to sort out our thoughts and thus the emotions that follow the behind lag to catch up.
