What are the challenges that gay men face in societies like Vietnam? Our Golden Guest, Kien, a legal practitioner at Baker & McKenzie, joins the podcast and shares his experience as a gay man living and working in Vietnam. He walks us through his personal journey, from the moment he realised his sexual orientation and sexual identity to the struggles of coming out to his family and how he has managed to navigate these hurdles up until now. Having studied abroad in the UK before moving back to Vietnam, he will also compare and contrast the different environments and levels of 'acceptance' of the LGBT+ community in both the West and the East. Kien will also explain exact definitions of each of the LGBTQIA or LGBT+ acronyms, being Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual and/or Ally, and help us understand the extremely complex world of sexual orientation and identity.
