What should you do at the scene of an accident? First, call 911. You always need documentation. Memories and stories change over time. The impartial, third-party account taken by an officer is critical. Information is still fresh in everyone’s mind and this is your best chance to accurately document what happened. Listen for advice on how to protect your health and future claim for damages. Police officers generally don’t take pictures at the scene of an accident unless a fatality is involved. If you are medically able, take pictures and videos of the scene. Down the road, these images provide undisputed evidence. Up close and far away views are both helpful. After an accident is cleared, there is no way to recreate it. If you are able, take a couple minutes and capture pictures and video from the scene. Refusing evaluation, treatment and transportation to the hospital after an accident can damage your health and your future insurance claim. Don’t worry about the ambulance bill.
