Daniel Schlozman, “When Movements Anchor Parties: Electoral Alignments in American History” (Princeton University Press, 2015)

Daniel Schlozman is the author of When Movements Anchor Parties: Electoral Alignments in American History (Princeton University Press, 2015). Schlozman is assistant professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University. With disarray in the Republican Party, Schlozman’s new book traces some of the movements that have shaped the current GOP. The book shows why certain social movements, such as organized labor and Christian Conservatives, became central to the Democrats and Republicans, whereas as others, such as the anti-war movement and populist movement, never gained traction in the two parties.
