I have been reading Tarot cards for 30 years for fun. I took a two and a half day course, and I was so excited to be able to take the mystery out of getting readings done for myself, and to be able to do them myself. Welcome to the "Memorizing Tarot Cards" podcast, your three-minute lessons on learning and memorizing each card using symbolism. I use the Rider Waite Tarot, but you can view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring The Devil card, focusing on reversals. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed.

The Devil upright represents temptation, bondage, and the shadow aspects of our lives such as addictions, fears, and unhealthy attachments. When reversed, The Devil takes on a more liberating energy. It suggests that you recognize what's been holding you back and take steps to free yourself from those chains. The reversed Devil is a card of empowerment. It indicates you're ready to confront your fears, let go of limiting beliefs, and reclaim control over your choices and actions.

So, what happens when The Devil reversed appears in a reading? The Devil reversed can also point to a fear of fully letting go. You may know what needs to change but feel hesitant about taking the final steps. This card encourages you to trust the process and understand that the freedom you seek is worthwhile. Sometimes, the reversed card may indicate subtle influences still lingering in your life. Even as you make progress, there may be remnants of old patterns that need attention. The Devil reversed invites you to continue the work, knowing that even small steps lead to meaningful transformation. So, what is the best way to memorize The Devil card in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed Devil card moment was choosing to move to contract jobs instead of employee roles. I felt all the fear and uncertainty but I kept taking those small steps toward my goal, until I arrived. An example was calling business schools to learn how to get on their rosters. I wasn't doing that all day long, but that is an example of an action I took, instead of sitting in fear and losing time doing research. I just started making steps until I started getting jobs. Eventually, I got busy.
