60. The Shadows of Cleveland: Unveiling the Horrors of the Cleveland Strangler

In this episode of the *Salattu* podcast, we delve into the chilling case of the Cleveland Strangler, Anthony Sowell, whose crimes terrorized the Mount Pleasant area of Cleveland, Ohio. As the city struggled with economic hardship, the police initially dismissed disappearances of local women, attributing them to drug-related issues. Meanwhile, an unbearable odor lingered, which residents blamed on a nearby sausage factory. However, when the stench worsened and a homeless man barely escaped a disturbing encounter with Sowell, suspicions arose. Despite multiple reports, including survivors with severe injuries, police inaction allowed Sowell to continue his crimes undetected. Finally, in October 2009, a police investigation uncovered eleven bodies hidden in Sowell’s home, shocking the nation. His 2011 trial resulted in a death sentence, sparking reform within the Cleveland police.
