Monica Carrasco had just begun staying with her aunt and uncle in Balmorhea, Texas, while she was being treated for depression and anorexia.

Monica spent the evening of October 1, 2003 playing video games with her cousins. She went to bed around 11:00 p.m.

Family members saw her sleeping soundly at 1:00 a.m., but when it came time for breakfast the next morning, Monica was nowhere to be found.
