I Will Satisfy Your Hunger . . . How the Miracle of the Loaves Relates to Us Today Have you ever felt that you absolutely have no energy left? You may have felt that you have reach your limits. You possibly even feel overwhelmed. Linger with that image as the Church celebrates a beautiful mystery today . . . the Body and Blood of Our Lord. The Gospel today is one of the accounts of Our Lord feeding the multiples of people who came to hear Him. It begins simply. Jesus has been teaching and has been healing the people. One might think that would be enough. But the people have another need as well. There are many people, most of whom are tired and hungry. There is no shelter. One might think that Jesus had done all that He could do. But that is not what we hear within the scripture. . . . How the Miracle of the Loaves Relates to Us Today The disciples come to the Lord asking that He send the people away, so the disciples could tend for themselves. The Lord’s response, however, is instructive. He tells the disciples not to send them away, but to feed them. The Lord knows that there are no local places that could care for so many. The Lord knows that He cannot send them away into a world that cannot care for so many people. Why don’t you (the disciples) feed them? The disciples look at the large crowd. The disciples know they could not feed the people. Then there is Jesus. He says, give me the five loaves and two fish. It visually makes no sense! Yet, Jesus says let’s feed them all. Hear why this miracle is so amazing. Nowhere does it say there are five thousand loafs after the blessing. He gives them food that does not end as the disciples pass out the food.
