The Lord’s Prayer: Understand the Significance to Our Own Spiritual Prayer Life The Lord’s Prayer: . . . How many times in our life have we prayed the Lord’s Prayer? Can we even count them? Having said that, do we really understand it? If asked to give an explanation of the prayer, many Christians might feel awkward. Interesting! On the one hand the prayer is very familiar. Yet on the other hand it, for many, it may feel a little slippery. Before showing us how to pray, Jesus in today’s Gospel, tells us do not babble on . . . do not ramble on saying many words that are meaningless. Don’t try to explain everything to God, as though we are His teacher. Jesus tells us your Father already knows what you need . . . before you ask Him. Jesus is not saying do not ask. No, not at all. Furthermore, Jesus tells us not to focus on the asking as though we are trying to tell God His job. We should not try to justify what we ask. Prayer is most effective when we are seeking something, when it is simple and direct. Listen more within the Homily. . . . Understand the Significance to Our Own Spiritual Prayer Life Many Christians have a long list of prayers they say on a daily basis. There is nothing wrong with that. However, it can also be dangerous. When the prayers are said because one prayer is believed not to be enough, so they add another, this can be dangerous. Hear more about this danger within the Homily. Praying is not about saying prayers that will bring us a grace. Because sooner or later that leads to praying in the wrong spirit. So, why do we pray? What is it about? Jesus tells us, it is about your relationship with your Heavenly Father. If it’s about anything else . . . it’s wrong. Wow! Hear more within the Homily. Jesus tells us, when we pray then . . . this is how you are to pray. Jesus gives us a brief and simple and mighty prayer. Everything you need . . . is here. It doesn’t mean that other prayers are bad. On the contrary. But Jesus continues and tells His disciples that everything you need may be found here. If you say this prayer well, you will be praying well. Hear more within the Homily. Note how the prayer begins. It begins with a closeness to your Heavenly Father. Listen to the rest of Homily.
