All Saints Day and Our Call to Holiness The Gospel is the famous Sermon on the Mount. It doesn’t begin with the Beatitudes. When Jesus saw the crowd, Jesus went up the mountain. He saw and moved away, and then sat down. His disciples then came to Him. He waited for those who would follow Him, and then he taught them! It may be subtle in this passage. But it is an aspect of the Lord in which we reflect upon too little. The Lord teaches us something. The crowd sees the Lord and the Lord sees the crowd. He then moves and awaits those who will follow Him, before departing His message! The teaching of the Sermon on the Mount is a teaching for those that moved with and to the Lord. Again, a lesson for us even today! Hear more in the audio. Feast of All Saints The Feast of All Saints is celebrated on Nov. 1st. It is an overwhelming number. In the first reading (not in this audio), John describes what he sees in heaven. Too many to count, he is overwhelmed. When they praise the Lord together, it sounds like thunder, there are so many. So what does he see? He sees these great numbers of souls in the glory of heaven; in the brightness of heaven. We Are All Called To Holiness The Homily goes further into Holiness. Holiness is what we are asked to be here on earth. John sees the holy souls in heaven in their glory. How can there be so many? Many people think holiness is not for them! We are all called to be holy, says St. Louis de Montfort. Many Catholics do not strive to be so holy, because they believe it is unattainable. If it is so rare, why does John see an overwhelming number. . . too numerous to count. Hear more on our call to holiness, and the Feast of All Saints.
