#333: Modic changes, the unknown cause behind lower back pain with Hanne Albert
Jaksokuvaus
Do you have persistent pain in the lower back? Do you perhaps experience more pain when you exercise? And does your sleep often suffer due to the pain when you try to turn in bed at night? Maybe the physiotherapist's rehabilitation exercises aren't helping, even though you've been struggling with them for several years? Welcome to my everyday life... Pain in the lower back caused by so-called Modic changes is as common as type 2 diabetes. However, despite this, there is unfortunately a great lack of knowledge about this diagnosis. In recent years, significant research breakthroughs have occurred, and there is now a treatment developed in Denmark that has helped many Modic patients return to a pain-free and active life. A treatment that allows the patient to avoid long-term use of painkillers or surgery. In this episode, I talk with Hanne Albert, a physiotherapist and medical doctor, also known as ”Queen of Modic". She is one of the world's leading researchers on Modic changes, and she has been suggested as a potential candidate for the Nobel Prize. However, Hanne's discovery that Modic changes may be caused by bacteria and can be treated with antibiotics is controversial, and she has been questioned by many Swedish doctors, not least.
