Day 23 The Worn Lyric Book

Day 23 The Worn Lyric Book

DAY 23 — THE WORN LYRIC BOOK

A choir singer carried the same lyric booklet for years.
Eventually, the pages became creased,
the ink faded,
and the paper fragile.

During rehearsal one day,
she flipped to a familiar hymn
and sighed,
“I’ve sung this so many times
that it doesn’t move me anymore.”

The conductor looked at her and said,
“The words haven’t grown old—
your heart has grown tired.
Sometimes you must sing the words
before you feel them again.”

So she sang softly at first—
then slowly,
the music reawakened her soul.

Prayer often feels like this:
familiar, repetitive, worn-out,
like old ink on thin paper.

But prayer isn’t magic—
it’s relationship.
And relationships go through seasons
of dryness.

Lent invites you to pray
not because you feel something,
but because you are reawakening
something buried.

Sometimes the heart follows the words—
not the other way around.

Even tired prayers rise like incense
when offered faithfully.
