46 The Mormon Church and the Equal Rights Amendment

The Equal Rights Amendment was written in 1923 by Alice Paul. It is only twenty-four words long and has still to this day NOT been ratified. The Amendment reads:

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”

Despite the support from leading Mormon women in the early days of the church, the church is very much against the Equal Rights Amendment. Why? Join with Julia and America as they discuss the history of the ERA and how the Church responded (and continues to respond) to it.
