What a year...

I’m Susan Schwartz, your drinking companion, and this is Lush Life Podcast, every week we are inspired to live life one cocktail at a time.

I keep thinking of something that my past guest Johnny Livanos told me - his grandfather picked the restaurant business because he knew that everyone would always need somewhere to eat.

Unfortunately, he had no idea that we would have a pandemic to contend with, with most of us in some kind of lockdown, making it impossible to visit our favorite bars and restaurants.

During this impossibly difficult time, this industry that I love so much has pulled together and supported each other, and we cocktail lovers have bought cocktails to go, had cocktails delivered, and donated to the fundraising pages of our favorite bars.

Next Tuesday, I bring you Season 5, I can’t believe it, of Lush Life - introducing you to more folks in our industry you might not know, sipping spirits that are new and savoring one that are old friends, plus as always, making our cocktail of the week for you to try at home.

Although I had made it a rule always to interview my guests face to face, I now am at the mercy of the interweb. This means, though, that I can interview more people from around the world!!

So join me next week when the fun really begins.

The Tom Collins is our cocktail of the week!

Ingredients

• 2 oz Old Tom Gin
• 1 oz Simple Syrup
• 1 oz Lemon Juice
• Soda Water
• Garnish: Lemon wedge and cherry

Method

• Put the gin, syrup, and lemon juice into a shaker
• Add ice, then shake, shake, shake
• Strain into a Highball Glass with ice
• Top with Soda Water.
• Garnish with a lemon wedge and a cherry
