Senator Dianne Feinstein passed away on September 28th, 2023

United States Senator Dianne Feinstein passed away or died on evening of September 28th, 2023. She was the first woman mayor of San Francisco, California, first woman to serve as president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first female Senator from California, first female chair of Senate Rules & Intelligence committees, first woman to serve on Senate Judiciary Committee and the first woman to serve as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senator Dianne Feinstein was first elected to serve in the U.S. Senate chamber in 1992 or the "Year of the Woman". She served in the Senate for thirty one years. Senator Feinstein announced earlier this year that she would not run for another six year term in the U.S. Senate in 2024'. Her retirement announcement created a competitive Senate race to fill her Senate seat on November 5th, 2024. Now that she has passed away, California Governor Gavin Newsom has the responsibility to name an interim replacement for her Senate seat.
