Peeling back the layers of what it means to be fully human with Tara Teng

Peeling back the layers of what it means to be fully human with Tara Teng

What an episode I have for you this time around. This conversation that I had with Tara Teng was epic. We covered the intersectionality of sexuality and spirituality, we spoke about purity culture, we spoke about decolonisation and our anti-racism work that is part of being a fully embodied human. We discussed the layers that are involved in life, the layers that we need to make sure are involved in our life, supporting the LGBTQA+ humans and the ethical and sustainability choices we need to make in our lives. If you have never heard of Tara or you have never spoken to her or heard her words she is an absolutely incredible human that has dedicated so much of her life already to Justice and I'm really stoked for this episode. There's not much more that I can say to convince you to press play so just press play!

Tara Teng is a TEDx Speaker, former Miss Canada, and Embodiment Coach working in the intersections of spirituality and sexuality. She helps people come home to themselves, dismantling purity culture and reclaiming embodiment as a spiritual practice so your whole self can live and thrive in wholeness. Aside from her 1:1 coaching mentorships, Tara hosts women’s circles, workshops, online classes and retreats throughout Vancouver, Canada on the topics of theology, justice, embodiment, sexuality, and relationships.

Tara comes to this work after ten years working to advance the socio-economic status of women and end human trafficking alongside collaborative work with community stakeholders, lawmakers, and some amazing organizations. Her advocacy work has helped to pass new laws in Canada that protect victims of human trafficking and she has established Canada’s first Municipal Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking. She was named Canada’s “Woman of the Year” in 2011, named one of the Globe and Mail’s “Top 25 Most Transformational Canadians”, received an International Heroes award from the Joy Smith Foundation, as well as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal in recognition of her vast human rights work.

In her personal life, Tara is a single mother to two young children. She continues to invest in her community as a mentor with the Miss BC leadership program and often speaks at local schools and events in the community.

She lives, works and plays on the unceded traditional territories of the Kwantlen, Matsqui, Katzie and Semiahmoo First Nations.
