Tamarama, Jay Lyon & Pottsy - MTV's 'The City'

If you didn't know better, before talking with Jay Lyon and Pottsy, you'd assume they were Southern California born and bred. However, their accents give them away as native Australians. The surf rock/pop duo that make up the band Tamarama (named after a beach-side, eastern suburb of Sydney, Australia) have taken a spotlight of their own here in the U.S. Their debut self-titled LP Tamarama (Universal Motown) dropped on June 1st. They're currently rocking out at shows all along the West coast this summer (including Bonnaroo), a great way to connect with fans that have grown to love them maybe even before they heard their music. You might recall Lyon from his stint on the hit MTV show The City last season in which he was a love interest of Whitney Port. Lyon and Pottsy, former models, both date(d) fellow Australian born models Miranda Kerr (Victoria's Secret,) and Jessica Hart (2009 Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Issue) respectively - who also happen to make a cameo in Tamarama's video for Everything To Me. Modeling was great, television is fun, but music is what makes them Tamarama. Their style of music is in a category of it's own just like themselves -- on a shelf somewhere between the Beach Boys and Jason Mraz. Unique to the bone but happy to be spreading the love of their humble beginning on a tiny beach called Tamarama. Just listen to their music once and you will feel like you're on a beach somewhere enjoying the good life, just like in the video for Everything To Me. For any red blooded American, that's not a bad way to live!
