Finding Peace Beyond Schizophrenia: Insights on Recovery, Resilience & Advocacy

Finding Peace Beyond Schizophrenia: Insights on Recovery, Resilience & Advocacy

In this powerful conversation, therapist and host Malisa Hepner sits down with Dale E. Walsh, coach for families of those diagnosed with schizophrenia (and college grad), to explore the lived realities of schizophrenia. Through personal stories and hard-earned wisdom, they unpack the challenges of mental illness on family dynamics, the role of medication in healing, and the survival skills developed along the way. Dale emphasizes the importance of communication, breaking free from victimhood, and finding inner peace, while highlighting the transformative role of advocacy in mental health recovery.

Learn how open dialogue, self-empowerment, and consistent support can break cycles of fear and foster resilience, offering practical steps for both those living with schizophrenia and their loved ones.

Though I've shared every ounce of myself on this show, with so many wonderful guests, this episode feels the most personal to me. I cried, at least a little, through most of it. I felt hope and a little bit of healing, getting to visit with someone who has survived the horrors of schizophrenia and come out the other side of it. Dale is a true testament to what the right kind of support can offer humans that are suffering with mental illness. He is bright and kind - and funny - and it was an honor to have made this connection with him. Make sure to check the show notes on how to access Dale's program, LIVELOVE, where he works with family members of humans diagnosed with schizophrenia. As a receiver of his information, I can absolutely attest to his knowledge.
