Building community involves a wide array of actors, including business, government, academia, and the nonprofit sector. In a report published by the Office of Nonprofit Engagement of JP Morgan Chase, "Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in building healthy communities by providing critical services that contribute to economic stability and mobility." Further, the report notes that because of the "combination of strong community relationships and intimate local knowledge, these organizations often understand better than anyone else their communities; needs and the best ways to meet them."

Nationally, there are nearly 1.3 million nonprofit organizations that account for nearly 10% of the labor force. Here in the greater Los Angeles region, Los Angeles County is home to over 37,000 nonprofit organizations, the largest cluster in any county in the U.S. In Southern California, no organization has played a greater role in providing critical resources to the nonprofit sector, enabling their important and necessary work. Cultivating success has been the mission of CNM for over 40 years, as it's delivered a wide array of services to nonprofit boards, developed capacity building programs, and provided technical assistance and training resources to millions of nonprofit leaders and board members throughout Southern California.
