#220 ALICE IN CHAINS - Inside The Metal

“Sure, God’s all-powerful, but does he have lips? Whoa…”

It was the early 90’s, and the landscape of metal was undergoing a transformation. Hair metal was effectively dead and gone, the popularity of thrash was rapidly approaching its zenith, and ALICE IN CHAINS were well on their way to becoming one of the most recognized bands in the world, thanks (in no small part) to their slot supporting The Clash of the Titans Tour, opening for 75% (or ¾ if you prefer fractions) of The Big Four as perhaps the most obscure, unknown, and “out of place” band on a bill packed with the biggest names in thrash.

While ALICE IN CHAINS brought their own unique brand of metal to a brand-new (and oftentimes “highly resistant”) audience as the “odd ducks” relative to their legendary thrash counterparts, AIC’s “baptism by fire” granted them the opportunity to prove their mettle while winning over new legions of metal fans and helping pave the way for the next evolutionary wave of metal which would soon be rising to prominence.

Get ready to learn the answer to “Where?” and prepare to get “sucked in” as we unveil the actual reason why glam bands wore make-up and remember why “It’s gotta be clean and it’s gotta be huge” if you “won’t be taking baths this year” whenever you JOIN US for some “third eye gravy” as we go INSIDE THE METAL of a band sharing more in common with Slayer than you’d think and journey to the rainy, perpetually moist, Pacific Northwest (where one might “hunt for some Squatch”) with Seattle’s native sons, ALICE IN CHAINS.
