The Reality of Foster Parenting: Peeking Behind the Curtain

The Reality of Foster Parenting: Peeking Behind the Curtain

Have you ever thought about becoming a foster parent? Do you feel that you have a calling in life? Is it something the Lord stirred in your heart sporadically? My guest in this episode, Jamie C. Finn, has been a great sounding board for my husband and me in our season of foster parenting, and she shares the most incredible perspectives on the foster care system and foster parenting. Jamie C. Finn is the founder and executive director of Foster the Family, the author of Foster the Family, and a highly sought-after speaker for retreats, conferences, and events for foster and adoptive parents. She is also the founder and owner of Goods and Better. Jamie's social media platforms provide a glimpse into life as a foster parent, as well as inspiration and encouragement to thousands of foster parents. Jamie lives in New Jersey, with her husband, Alan. And at any given moment, is a mother to four to six children, including her two biological children and two children adopted through foster care. In this episode, Jamie C. Finn and I talk about how she and her husband became foster parents to 30 children, how God has used the foster care process to teach them, and advice for those considering fostering children. Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with Jamie C. Finn: the mission behind Foster the Family foster care is bigger than taking care of a child biggest misconceptions of foster care why churches need to step up Mentioned Resources: Foster the Family Book Connect with Jamie C. Let’s Talk about Sex: Women’s Pleasure in Marriage with Kingdom Sexuality Ministry

Let’s Talk about Sex: Women’s Pleasure in Marriage with Kingdom Sexuality Ministry

Let’s talk about it—women’s pleasure in marriage. For too long, Christian women have been taught that sex is just for their husbands, leaving many feeling disconnected, ashamed, or even unaware of God’s true design for intimacy. But here’s the truth: God created pleasure for women, too! In this episode, I sit down with Tiera and Alana from Kingdom Sexuality Ministry to unpack what the Bible really says about intimacy, how to break free from shame, and why understanding pleasure is essential to a thriving, God-honoring marriage. What the Bible says about women’s pleasure in marriage How purity culture shaped our view of intimacy—and what needs to change Practical ways to embrace intimacy as a gift from God How to communicate your needs in marriage with confidence Biblical encouragement for women struggling with shame, guilt, or trauma This is a conversation every Christian woman needs to hear—whether you’re newly married, struggling in this area, or just wanting to grow in intimacy with your spouse. Back with a New Name: Taylor Swift, Charlie Kirk, and Christian Hot Takes You Didn’t See Coming

Back with a New Name: Taylor Swift, Charlie Kirk, and Christian Hot Takes You Didn’t See Coming

After months away on maternity leave, we’re back — and a lot has changed. In this episode, I open up about life after becoming a mom, what God’s been speaking in this season, and why this break was so needed. We’re also unveiling the new name of this podcast: She Lives Freed — a bold declaration over the women in this community and the mission behind every conversation we have. We’re diving into some real and raw conversations this week, including: The heart behind the rebrand Life after maternity leave and how motherhood has reshaped my calling My thoughts on the recent Charlie Kirk situation — and why it’s stirred up such an important conversation for believers Why I don’t believe Taylor Swift should be celebrated as a role model for young girls — and the importance of discernment in pop culture And more unfiltered, Spirit-led thoughts on culture, calling, and living boldly in truth This episode is a reset, a reintroduction, and a rally cry for the women who are done playing small. Takeaways: God often uses seasons of rest to refine our purpose. Culture will always try to disciple the next generation — it’s up to us to point them back to truth. Living “freed” means living fearless, bold, and anchored in the Word, even when it’s unpopular.  Connect: Follow along on Instagram: @shelivesfreed Subscribe for weekly episodes and Spirit-led conversations Learn more about your ad choices. If you’re listening to this, I am on maternity leave and currently soaking up all the baby snuggles and newborness with our first little one. Even just typing out those words still feels surreal.
