The Chris Voss Show Podcast – Evil Roman Emperors: The Shocking History of Ancient Rome’s Most Wicked Rulers from Caligula to Nero and More by Phillip Barlag

Evil Roman Emperors: The Shocking History of Ancient Rome's Most Wicked Rulers from Caligula to Nero and More by Phillip Barlag Nero fiddled while Rome burned. As catchy as that aphorism is, it’s sadly untrue, even if it has a nice ring to it. The one thing Nero is well-known for is the one thing he actually didn’t do. But fear not, the truth of his life, his rule and what he did with unrestrained power, is plenty weird, salacious and horrifying. And he is not alone. Roman history, from the very foundation of the city, is replete with people and stories that shock our modern sensibilities. Evil Roman Emperors puts the worst of Rome’s rulers in one place and offers a review of their lives and a historical context for what made them into what they became. It concludes by ranking them, counting down to the worst ruler in Rome’s long history. Lucius Tarquinius Suburbus called peace conferences with warring states, only to slaughter foreign leaders; Commodus sold offices of the empire to the highest bidder; Caligula demanded to be worshipped as a god, and marched troops all the way to the ocean simply to collect seashells as “proof” of their conquest; even the Roman Senate itself was made up of oppressors, exploiters, and murderers of all stripes. Author Phillip Barlag profiles a host of evil Roman rulers across the history of their empire, along with the faceless governing bodies that condoned and even carried out heinous acts. Roman history, deviant or otherwise, is a subject of endless fascination. What’s never been done before is to look at the worst of the worst at the same time, comparing them side by side, and ranking them against one another. Until now.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – How to be a Good Dog Learning to Sit, Stay, and Heal By Phyllis Coletta

How to be a Good Dog Learning to Sit, Stay, and Heal By Phyllis Coletta Howtobeagooddog.com https://store.bookbaby.com/book/how-to-be-a-good-dog Overview "How to Be a Good Dog: Learning to Sit, Stay, and Heal" is a field manual for people who want to stop the madness in their minds. Learning to meditate is like taking a wild puppy — you know, the one eating socks and ripping up the couch in your brain—and transforming it into a faithful, reliable companion. Written for anyone tired of their mental chaos, (like a 40-year-old mom with kids), this is a meditation guide that uses the "F" word with impunity and does not sanction mysterious mantras, mudras, or hemp clothing. The book is for anyone worn down by the endlessly judgmental, negative commentator residing between their ears. Weary of the inner noise? Readers are guaranteed to laugh, relax, and learn how to find their mental alpha dog and train that unruly pup to sit, stay, and heal. Description "How to Be a Good Dog: Learning to Sit, Stay, and Heal" is a field manual for people who want to stop the madness in their minds. Learning to meditate is about taking that wild puppy in your mind— you know, the one eating socks and ripping up the couch—and transforming it into a reliable companion. While meditation may seem simple, it is no easy feat. Training your puppy mind requires discipline, courage, and the willingness to be quiet. No phones, kids, co-workers, or partners—meditation is the bravest solo trek you'll ever take. When you train your mind to sit, stay, and heal, you open your mind to a powerful force you never knew you had. Your mind will respond to every blow, joy, and sorrow with willingness, humor, and peace. Once your mind is a good dog, there is no going back to the chaos of puppyhood. If you want to heal the world, you must begin with yourself. Your healing will radiate out to your family, loved ones, and communities. Train your mind through meditation, and life will become a walk in the park. About The Author Phyllis Coletta is the fourth of six children in a loud, loving Italian family from Philadelphia. A single mom of three boys, Phyllis was a litigation attorney, so her soul withered for over a decade. Three days after her youngest son graduated high school, she quit her job, sold her house, and gave away most of her stuff. At 48, with everything she needed in her Honda CRV, Phyllis headed to Colorado to be a cowgirl. She has also been a high school teacher, EMT, ski bum, and writer. As an ordained Zen Buddhist chaplain, Phyllis worked as a hospital/hospice chaplain. After her adventures in Colorado, Phyllis lives mostly barefoot at the Jersey shore where she raised her boys. The Chris Voss Show Podcast – The Epic of God by Louis McCall

The Epic of God by Louis McCall https://www.amazon.com/Epic-God-Louis-McCall/dp/B0DVJ5G6W2 Louismccallinternational.com Jesus used parables that were fictional to make practical and spiritual points, provoke thought, and enlighten. The Epic of God is a speculative fictional account of the epic story of our heroic God, lover, and savior from eternity past to eternity future. Though fictional, this story is based on Biblical history, hints, and prophecy taken from scripture, brought to life and woven together by the narrative of a watcher angel.About the author Louis McCall was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended Northwestern University where he received a Ph.D. Later, he also attended the National War College of the National Defense University. Louis was an Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University prior to a 36-year career in the U.S. Department of State, first as a Foreign Service officer and then as a foreign affairs Civil Service employee where he served as Consul General in Florence, Italy, Chargé d’Affaires in Brunei, U.S. Representative to the Republic of San Marino, and Assistant Inspector General. He lived in or worked in, at least temporarily, 60 countries on six continents. Whether in academia or as a diplomat, Louis found opportunities to live his faith, including part-time ministry of the good news in word and in song, including co-laboring with missionaries, national church leaders, and the underground church. When ministering early in his diplomatic career from the pulpit of a great church in Calcutta, India, Louis said to those in attendance that he had determined not to be ashamed of the gospel of Christ. That has been a commitment he has endeavored to keep over the years. In his final two years at the Department of State he organized and led the National Day of Prayer observances in the Department. Now, in his new career as an author, he has the pleasure of greater freedom in sharing what God has placed in his heart. Louis is active simultaneously in two churches in Washington, D.C. One is a multi-site non-denominational church, where he is an elder, and the other a Catholic church where he is a regular cantor, though not a Catholic himself. He has managed this with the blessing and full knowledge of pastors and priests. This has been an outgrowth of his early association with a mixed protestant-Catholic charismatic house-based worship group, his association with the late Mother Teresa of Calcutta, his Catholic charismatic wife, and guest ministry in churches and bible schools of various denominations while living in or working in other countries.
