The Colonial Parkway Murders: Part Four

This week Nic from the @TrueCrimeGarage podcast joins Bill and me for a roundtable discussion about the Colonial Parkway Murders. Nic is extremely knowledgable about the case and he has great insight into the possible scenarios.Guest: Nic @TrueCrimeGarage, www.truecrimegarage.comGuest: Bill Thomas, brother of victim Cathy Thomas https://www.facebook.com/ColonialParkwayCase/Construction stretched over twenty-six years through the Depression, World War II, and funding shortages. The Parkway allows for a stress-free drive from Yorktown to Jamestown that avoids the regular trafficThe parkway is made of stone pavement to give the feel of old-timey highwaysThe parkway connects Virginia's historic triangle: Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. The parkway runs along the York River and millions of cars travel this route each year. The parkway was built to resemble highways of the past so the two-lane river-gravel road doesn't have any line-markings.The parkway is only two lanes with a center lane for passing and the maximum speed limit is a mere 45 miles per hourAlthough the park closes at sunset the parkway stays open to trafficConstruction began in the spring of 1931 in Williamsburg. The parkway construction was hit with delays from the start. There were design and routing conflicts. 35th Anniversary of the Kirtland Cult Killings

35th Anniversary of the Kirtland Cult Killings

On today’s episode, we will dive into the Kirtland Cult Killings that took place in Kirtland, Ohio. This small town, situated in Lake County and only a 25-minute drive east of Cleveland, became a national headline in January 1990. After moving to Kirtland, Lundgren established himself as a lay minister for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dale Luffman, the president of the northeast Ohio chapter of the Reorganized Church, confirmed that Lundgren served at the church temple in Kirtland from 1985 to 1987. During this period, he took charge of guiding tours of the church's 153-year-old temple for the public after relocating from Kansas City, Missouri. The victims were the Dennis Avery family: Dennis, Cheryl, and their three daughters—Trina (15), Rebecca (13), and Karen (7). They had moved from Missouri to join Lundgren’s group around 1987. On April 17, 1989, Lundgren invited the Averys to his farm in Kirtland for a “last supper”-type gathering. One by one, they were taken to a barn behind the house, where they were bound, gagged with duct tape, and shot to death. Reports indicate that a chainsaw was used to muffle the sound of the gunshots. Closure or Cowardice? The Fallout from Koberger's Plea Deal

Welcome back. Summer hiatus is officially over. As I retrurned to the mic this week I wanted to get a breakdown of the plea in the Idaho 4 case. Legal expert Matt Mangino joined us and highlighted that Koberger's decision not to elaborate on his motives was not unusual in plea agreements, especially when the defendant is not compelled to provide such information. Listen to the full episode to get a total understanding of this controversial plea deal. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
