Eastbound Strangler Part 4

Thank you for listening to the Eastbound Strangler and thanks to this week's sponsor betterhelp.com. Source: Atlantic City Prosecutor's Office THE CASE: On November 20, 2006 the four victims were found in the drainage ditch behind the Golden Key Motel in West Atlantic City (Egg Harbor Township). The drainage ditch contains fresh water run-off and is also tidal measuring five feet deep and ten feet across. It runs parallel with Route 322. Kim Raffo was the first victim discovered when her body was located by two women out for a walk. They were walking along a path that ran parallel to the drainage ditch. After 911 was contacted and uniformed officers arrived, three more female bodies were discovered as officers searched along the path for additional evidence. The ACPO Major Crimes Unit arrived and the crime scene area was secured. The bodies were recovered during the evening hours and the scene remained secured until daybreak on November 21, 2006. The area from which the bodies were recovered was searched east to the bridge and west for approximately one mile between Route 322 and the Atlantic City Expressway. All four bodies were identified: Kim Raffo, Molly Dilts, Barbara Breidor and Tracy Roberts; and families contacted within a week’s time. 35th Anniversary of the Kirtland Cult Killings

35th Anniversary of the Kirtland Cult Killings

On today’s episode, we will dive into the Kirtland Cult Killings that took place in Kirtland, Ohio. This small town, situated in Lake County and only a 25-minute drive east of Cleveland, became a national headline in January 1990. After moving to Kirtland, Lundgren established himself as a lay minister for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dale Luffman, the president of the northeast Ohio chapter of the Reorganized Church, confirmed that Lundgren served at the church temple in Kirtland from 1985 to 1987. During this period, he took charge of guiding tours of the church's 153-year-old temple for the public after relocating from Kansas City, Missouri. The victims were the Dennis Avery family: Dennis, Cheryl, and their three daughters—Trina (15), Rebecca (13), and Karen (7). They had moved from Missouri to join Lundgren’s group around 1987. On April 17, 1989, Lundgren invited the Averys to his farm in Kirtland for a “last supper”-type gathering. One by one, they were taken to a barn behind the house, where they were bound, gagged with duct tape, and shot to death. Reports indicate that a chainsaw was used to muffle the sound of the gunshots. Closure or Cowardice? The Fallout from Koberger's Plea Deal

Closure or Cowardice? The Fallout from Koberger's Plea Deal

Welcome back. Summer hiatus is officially over. As I retrurned to the mic this week I wanted to get a breakdown of the plea in the Idaho 4 case. Legal expert Matt Mangino joined us and highlighted that Koberger's decision not to elaborate on his motives was not unusual in plea agreements, especially when the defendant is not compelled to provide such information. Listen to the full episode to get a total understanding of this controversial plea deal. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
