Ep. 050 | The Fall of Victoria Cilliers [Part 1 of 2]

In April 2015, Victoria Cilliers, an experienced skydiving instructor, survived a 4,000-foot fall when both her main and reserve parachutes failed during a jump in Wiltshire, England. Investigations revealed that her husband, Emile Cilliers, a British Army sergeant, had deliberately sabotaged her parachutes in an attempt to murder her and claim a £120,000 life insurance payout to alleviate his debts and start a new life with his mistress. This was his second attempt on her life; a week earlier, he had tampered with a gas valve at their home, hoping to cause an explosion. In 2018, Emile Cilliers was convicted of two counts of attempted murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years. Click here to see all listening optionsFind us on socials:Facebook: A Trial by PodcastInstagram: @atrialbypodcastTikTok: @atrialbypodcast Theme Music:https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/mr-mischiefLicense code: MOYK9CTUWGH7BLCSDISCLAIMERThis podcast (and all related media*) is intended for informational and entertainment purposes only. Ep. 049 | The Murders of Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin

True Crime Creepers Link TreeIn February 2022, best friends Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin were killed in a deliberate and calculated car crash on the A46 in Leicestershire, England. The pair had been lured to the area under false pretenses by a woman named Ansreen Bukhari and her daughter, TikTok influencer Mahek Bukhari, after Saqib—who had been in a secret relationship with Ansreen—threatened to expose their affair. What followed was a high-speed chase orchestrated by Mahek and a group of accomplices, ending with Saqib and Hashim’s car being rammed off the road and bursting into flames. Investigators would later uncover a plot rooted in deception, blackmail, and social media clout, exposing the chilling lengths some would go to protect their reputations.Click here to shop our merchClick here to leave a donation to support the podcastClick here to see all listening optionsFind us on socials:Facebook: A Trial by PodcastInstagram: @atrialbypodcastTikTok: @atrialbypodcast Theme Music:https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/mr-mischiefLicense code: MOYK9CTUWGH7BLCSDISCLAIMERThis podcast (and all related media*) is intended for informational and entertainment purposes only. Ep. 048 | The Murder of Dr. Kendra Hatcher

True Crime Creepers Link TreeKendra Hatcher, a 35-year-old pediatric dentist living in Dallas, Texas, was shot and killed in the parking garage of her upscale apartment complex on September 2, 2015. The murder was orchestrated by Brenda Delgado, the ex-girlfriend of Kendra’s boyfriend, Ricky Paniagua, who had grown jealous of their relationship. Brenda recruited Crystal Cortes to drive getaway and hired Kristopher Love to carry out the shooting, promising payment in exchange. Delgado provided Cortes with information about Kendra’s whereabouts and used her connections to obtain the murder weapon. The plot unraveled quickly as investigators tracked down Cortes, who confessed and implicated both Love and Delgado. Love was later convicted and sentenced to death, while Delgado, who had fled to Mexico, was extradited and received a life sentence. The case shocked the community not only for its calculated nature, but also because of the seemingly senseless motive: jealousy turned deadly.Click here to shop our merchClick here to leave a donation to support the podcastClick here to see all listening optionsFind us on socials:Facebook: A Trial by PodcastInstagram: @atrialbypodcastTikTok: @atrialbypodcast Theme Music:https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/mr-mischiefLicense code: MOYK9CTUWGH7BLCSDISCLAIMERThis podcast (and all related media*) is intended for informational and entertainment purposes only. Ep. 047 | The Mysterious Death of Cindy James

Ep. 047 | The Mysterious Death of Cindy James

Cindy James, a 44-year-old nurse from British Columbia, spent seven years reporting over 100 incidents of harassment, violent attacks, and threats from an alleged anonymous stalker. Despite police investigations and media coverage, no assailant was ever identified, and Cindy was repeatedly found injured or drugged under bizarre circumstances—sometimes hogtied or with needle marks—only to survive each event. In 1989, her body was discovered in the yard of an abandoned house, hogtied with a nylon stocking around her neck and a fatal dose of morphine and sedatives in her system. No weapon or injection tools were found at the scene. A coroner's inquest ruled her death as an "unknown event," unable to determine whether it was suicide, homicide, or accidental. The case remains one of Canada’s most baffling mysteries, dividing opinion on whether Cindy was a victim of a cunning stalker or the architect of an elaborate and ultimately fatal psychological struggle.Click here to shop our merchClick here to leave a donation to support the podcastClick here to see all listening optionsFind us on socials:Facebook: A Trial by PodcastInstagram: @atrialbypodcastTikTok: @atrialbypodcast Theme Music:https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/mr-mischiefLicense code: MOYK9CTUWGH7BLCSDISCLAIMERThis podcast (and all related media*) is intended for informational and entertainment purposes only. Ep 046 | Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind

Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, a 22-year-old member of the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe, was tragically murdered in August 2017 in Fargo, North Dakota. Eight months pregnant at the time, she was lured to her neighbor's apartment under the pretense of assisting with a sewing project. There, she was attacked, and her unborn child was forcibly removed. Her body was discovered days later in the Red River, while her baby was found alive and has since been raised by her family. This heinous crime brought national attention to the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, leading to the passage of Savanna's Act in 2020, aimed at improving law enforcement protocols and data collection for such cases. Ep. 044 | The Kuria Family Murders [and the Survivors]

In today's episode, we discuss the tragic and mysterious murders of Jane Kuria and her two daughters, Isabella and Annabel, in their Georgia home in 2007. Jane was a Kenyan immigrant and an outspoken advocate against female genital mutilation (FGM), working tirelessly to support victims and raise awareness about the harmful practice. Her activism put her at odds with certain groups in Kenya, including the notorious Mungiki sect, which has been linked to violence and intimidation tactics. Investigators initially considered a connection to these threats but struggled to find definitive evidence. A key person of interest in the case was a man known to the family, though no arrests were ever made, leaving the murders officially unsolved. The case remains a haunting mystery, raising questions about the dangers faced by activists and the justice system's challenges in solving crimes involving immigrant families.Make a Donation to DNASolvesClick here to shop our merchClick here to leave a donation to support the podcastClick here to see all listening optionsFind us on socials:Facebook: A Trial by PodcastInstagram: @atrialbypodcastTikTok: @atrialbypodcast Theme Music:https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/mr-mischiefLicense code: MOYK9CTUWGH7BLCSDISCLAIMERThis podcast (and all related media*) is intended for informational and entertainment purposes only.
