Mary Lambert - Singer, Songwriter 'Same Love' with Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis (Capitol Records)

Mary Lambert sings with passion and no one can argue that every song she has written she has lived; every word speaks the poetry of her life. Lambert once described herself as a ‘depressed eight year old’ in an interview. She was raised in the Pentecostal church just outside Seattle, Washington where repression and non-acceptance of gays or lesbians was a normal part of the faith. Her mother is a lesbian, and the disconnect between her religious beliefs and personal beliefs didn't jive with that church. Being a religious person, she converted to Evangelical Christian when she got older and later came out as a lesbian herself at the age of 17. Her escape from all of the repression and life's challenges, since she was a child, has always been music. She taught herself how to play the piano and write songs. The now 24 year-old gained fame she long-deserved after writing the hook for the commercially successful song, Same Love, for Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis’ album, The Heist. The song peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went on to become nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2014 for Song of the Year and The Heist for Album of the Year. Lambert's live performing career hit a new high on the night of January 26, 2014 when she took to the Grammy Awards stage to perform that hit single, sharing the spotlight with Madonna in front of millions watching around the world. At the same time, Queen Latifa married a few dozen gay, straight and bisexual couples. This past winter Lambert released an EP on Capitol Records titled Welcome to the Age of My Body and this summer she will release her first full length album. She goes on tour this summer across North America with Matt Nathanson and Gavin DeGraw. Lambert tells AmoreMagazine.com in an exclusive interview, that she will always want to make music, but would be happy living life with enough means to get by, in a cabin somewhere with kids, a wife, and their very own plane to travel in. That seems like a pretty nice dream to us.
