The Village Outcast and the Missionary’s Touch | Leviticus 13 | Storyteller Joe Consford

ntro Welcome back to the Morning Meditation Podcast. Each weekday, we open God’s Word together, read a portion of Scripture, and share a story that helps us meditate on what we’ve read. Today’s passage comes from Leviticus chapter 13, a chapter that deals with leprosy and the laws of uncleanness. Though it may seem distant from us, it carries a powerful reminder about the seriousness of sin and the hope we have in Christ. So, fix yourself a cup of coffee, find a quiet spot, and let’s meditate together. Scripture Reading – Leviticus 13:1–3 (KJV) “And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, saying, When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a scab, or bright spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh like the plague of leprosy; then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the priests: And the priest shall look on the plague in the skin of the flesh: and when the hair in the plague is turned white, and the plague in sight be deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a plague of leprosy: and the priest shall look on him, and pronounce him unclean.” Story – The Village Outcast and the Missionary’s Touch In a remote African village lived a man named Kwame. Years before, a skin disease had spread across his arms and face. Though it wasn’t leprosy, the villagers feared him as if it were. They wouldn’t share food with him. Mothers pulled their children close when he walked by. Out of fear, they drove him outside the village, and he lived alone in a small hut. One day, a missionary came to preach. After sharing God’s Word in the village, he heard whispers about “the cursed man.” He asked where Kwame lived and walked to his hut. When Kwame saw him coming, he cried out, “Stay back! They say I am unclean.” But the missionary remembered how Jesus reached out and touched the leper in Matthew 8. Slowly, he walked closer, knelt beside him, and laid a hand on Kwame’s shoulder. “Brother, you are not forgotten by God,” he said. Tears rolled down Kwame’s face—it was the first human touch he had felt in years. The missionary explained that while disease separated him from people, sin is a deeper uncleanness that separates every one of us from God. Then he told of Jesus, who bore our uncleanness on the cross to make us clean. That day, Kwame believed. Though his sickness remained, his heart was made whole. Reflection Leviticus 13 may read like a medical manual, but it shows us something much bigger: uncleanness spreads, uncleanness isolates, and uncleanness cannot be ignored. Just as leprosy separated people from the camp of Israel, sin separates us from God. But where sin defiles, Jesus cleanses. Where uncleanness isolates, Jesus restores. Like the missionary’s touch to Kwame, Jesus reaches out to the untouchable parts of our lives and makes us whole. In Him, we are not outcasts—we are cleansed, restored, and brought back into fellowship with God. Outro Thank you for joining me for today’s Morning Meditation Podcast. We’ve seen in Leviticus 13 how uncleanness separates, but Jesus makes us clean. In our next episode, we’ll turn to Exodus chapter 14, one of the most dramatic chapters in the Bible—the crossing of the Red Sea. You won’t want to miss it. Until then, may the Lord bless you and keep you as you meditate on His Word today.
