EP260 – What It's Like to Reclaim a Vibrant Sex Life After Trauma with Dr. Holly Richmond

Welcome to episode 260 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to welcome Dr. Holly Richmond to the podcast. In this episode, we discuss Dr. Holly's new book “Reclaiming Pleasure”, looking at ways to combat shame and guilt and how sexual trauma mis-informs our sexuality.

Dr. Holly is one of North America’s leading sex therapists, serving women, men, couples and gender-diverse individuals for relationship and sexuality issues. She counsels a broad range of clients including Hollywood’s elite and prominent corporate clientele and offers consultation services with psychotherapy interns and other therapists.

Dr. Holly works from a sex positive approach, meaning: “all sex is good sex as long as it’s consensual and pleasurable.” She is committed to helping her clients feel better—mind and body—not just behave differently.

Her therapeutic relationships are built on strong rapport, trust, non-judgment and acceptance, though she is directive and results oriented, not simply supportive. Her objective is to help clients meet their goals and move through the therapy process as quickly as possible.

Dr. Holly’s forthcoming book, Reclaiming Pleasure: A Sex-Positive Guide for Moving Past Sexual Trauma and Living a Passionate Life (New Harbinger, Oct. 2021) is a groundbreaking examination of both somatic and psychological factors in survivor’s’ recovery.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • Why Dr. Holly decided to write her book “Reclaiming Pleasure”
  • Looking at ways to connect people easier
  • Analyzing the issue of trauma re-enactment
  • Understanding the difference between trauma re-enactment and a healthy sex life
