In this episode, we discuss how Marci transitioned from casting director and acting coach to intimacy coordinator, why intimacy coordinators are not the “sex police” and the ways she helps the film crew coordinate sex scenes.    A veteran Casting Director, Marci (she/her) has been casting film and television for the last 40 years. Her extensive credits span more than 50 films. While working at the renowned office of Fenton-Feinberg Casting she, along with Mike Fenton, cast such films as Bob Clark’s A Christmas Story and Porky’s; the Academy Award-nominated Poltergeist; Steven Spielberg’s E.T.– The Extra Terrestrial and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom; and Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner.     After establishing her own casting company in 1983, MARCI LIROFF CASTING, Marci cast many successful films including Footloose, St. Elmo’s Fire, Pretty in Pink, The Iron Giant, The Spitfire Grill (which she produced as well), Untamed Heart, Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, Insomnia, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, and Vampire Academy. In this episode, we discuss Chantal's role as an intimacy coordinator, how sexual assault leads to issues of trauma and looking at new practices that are coming onto sets to help prevent these issues.    Chantal Cousineau (she/her) was born in Canada. Raised in a large and loving French-Canadian family, she spent her childhood training tirelessly to become a Tae Kwon-Do champion. Achieving her first-degree black belt at the age of 15, she quickly dominated competitions, winning gold at the Canadian and North American Championships. She started modelling at the age of 17 and soon landed before the lens of famed photographers shooting for Abercrombie & Fitch, Aveda, Italian Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Roots, and many more. She moved to Los Angeles twenty years ago and has since carved out a successful career as an actor shooting television commercials.     She has become a grounded voice within the advocacy community, helping 1,300+ survivors of sexual harassment, assault, and abuse share their #MeToo experiences since 2017. A longtime member of SAG-AFTRA, Chantal serves on several union committees to consult on ways the industry can expand its best practices to move closer towards equal treatment, pay parity, representation, and improving safety standards on sets. In over 14 years of clinical experience, she has conducted clinical and forensic evaluations, provided expert witness testimony in court, and been a treatment provider in clinical, forensic, and correctional settings.     The Founder of Modern Intimacy and Co-Founder of Triune Therapy Group, Dr. Balestrieri is a passionate advocate for mental health, relational and sexual health and wellness.
