Series 1 Episode 2 - Euan MacLean

Welcome back to The Engineer a Career Podcast!

In our second episode, Josh is joined by Senior Project Engineer Euan MacLean to discuss his engineering career.

Euan shares his inspiring journey from his apprenticeship at Doosan Babcock to his current role, having built a wealth of experience in the petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors. Despite early setbacks—such as being rejected from university when applying at school —Euan's determination propelled him to pursue an alternative path, completing an HNC in Mechanical Engineering, a foundation degree, a BEng from the Open University, and now working towards an MSc in Engineering Project Management.

Key highlights include Euan's discussion on imposter syndrome, the critical importance of integrity engineering, and the mentorship he received along the way. Euan stresses how soft skills, including problem-solving, leadership, and networking, are essential in engineering, and emphasises how apprenticeships offer a route to success just as valuable as the traditional university path.

Join Josh and Euan as they explore Euan's aspirations to become a Chartered Engineer and reflect on the importance of self-belief and resilience in engineering.
