On January 15, 1947, the mutilated body of twenty-two-year-old Elizabeth Short was discovered in a vacant lot in Los Angeles. The body had been deliberately posed, drained of blood, washed, and severed with anatomical precision, indicating prolonged violence carried out in a private, controlled space.
