Craig Dean Comes Home After Serving 24 Years In Florida State Prison

Craig Dean Comes Home After Serving 24 Years In Florida State Prison

In this powerful and emotional episode of 10 Toes Podcast, Jason sits down one-on-one with Craig “Chico” Dean, a former Miami street hustler whose life took a tragic and irreversible turn during the height of the 1990s crack cocaine era.

Craig was introduced to crime at an alarmingly young age—while still in elementary school—and by just 17 years old, he was already running his own trap house operation in Miami, generating serious money during one of the most violent periods in the city’s history. What started as fast money and street reputation quickly spiraled into irreversible consequences.

A street beef escalated out of control, leading Craig to shoot at a rival’s home—an act that tragically resulted in an innocent young girl being shot and permanently paralyzed from the waist down. The case shocked the community and ultimately led to Craig receiving a sentence of natural life in prison.

Inside Florida State Prison, Craig explains how survival meant becoming something he never imagined—an animal in a system built on violence. He describes the brutal reality of long-term incarceration: constant stabbings, savage fights, prison politics, and the daily struggle to stay alive in one of the most unforgiving prison systems in America.

But this story takes an extraordinary and almost unheard-of turn.

Years later, the paralyzed victim—now an adult—publicly forgave Craig and took the unimaginable step of advocating for his release. Her compassion and belief in redemption ultimately played a role in Craig walking free after decades behind bars.

This episode dives deep into:

Miami’s crack cocaine era and street culture

Juvenile crime and early indoctrination into violence

Life sentences and survival inside Florida state prisons

The psychology of prison violence

Forgiveness, accountability, and redemption

What freedom looks like after decades locked away

This is not a story about glorifying crime—it’s a raw examination of consequences, remorse, and the power of forgiveness in the face of irreversible harm.

🎙️ 10 Toes Podcast continues to document the real stories behind America’s prison system—told by the people who lived them.
