AI Could Be Used to Solve Britain’s Most Notorious Cold Cases

Some of the most infamous cold cases in Britain may find resolution through the application of artificial intelligence, following a trial that demonstrated its capability to analyze evidence that would require 81 years of human labor in under two days.

Law enforcement leaders are optimistic that this technology could be utilized in the future to efficiently process numerous case files, thereby assisting detectives in uncovering new investigative avenues.

A trial conducted by Avon and Somerset Police employed an AI tool known as Söze, developed in Australia, to evaluate 27 intricate cases using this digital investigation platform.

The findings revealed that the AI could assess all evidential materials within 30 hours, a task that would have taken a human up to 81 years to complete manually.

The police force is now preparing to conduct a more extensive trial to further explore the advantages of this technology and adapt it for evidential purposes within UK law enforcement.

Gavin Stephens, Chairman of the National Police Chiefs Council, expressed that this technology could prove to be extremely beneficial in addressing the protracted reviews of cold cases that remain unsolved.
