Podcast Shorts 24-049: Alignment

There is incredible power in simplicity... Yesterday, it was the (very) basic three steps that ensure greater efficiency in strategic movement. Today, it's the (very) basic elements of a team's united efforts toward success as an organization. In an organizational environment, how in the world do we get all our ducks in a row? How do we get everyone rowing in the same direction? How do we get on the same page? Enough with the analogy... How do we get Bob, Suzie, Allie, Gerome, and the rest of our team to bring their personal perspective on prioritization, development, goal-setting, and everything else in their professional setting more in line with 1) one another, and 2) the organization's objectives?? This is a tall task for any senior leader. It is also absolutely essential. And though the outline for the solution is simple, the task is great. The outline (AN outline, anyway) is a 3-step process that I learned from Wiley's "Everything DiSC®" and "The Work of Leaders". As you may have surmised, it all starts with Vision. The senior leader MUST consistently and boldly cast an inspiring Vision that the entire organization can rally around. Beat that "North Star" like a drum - every day in every way. The second spirit that needs to be cultivated is Alignment. If the Vision is strong enough, inspiring enough, bold enough...the call for Alignment will be much more well received. It also needs to become an expectation. In a very real sense, though you may phrase it differently: "If you want to work in our organization, you (and the bulk of your effort, development, professional ambitions, etc...) should be in Alignment with our Vision." And the final piece - which is so basic it practically shouldn't have to be said - but, alas, it does - is... Execution. Everyone then needs to strategically and consistently ACT upon the goals, plans, and processes that will move the organization toward its Vision. 1. Vision 2. Alignment 3.
