Day 12 The Unlocked Door

Day 12 The Unlocked Door

DAY 12 — THE UNLOCKED DOOR

“God Leaves the Light On While You Return”

A man who had been away from home for years
walked through his old neighborhood late at night.
He paused at the gate of his childhood house—
uncertain, ashamed,
carrying mistakes he wished he could erase.

He feared the door would be locked.
He feared he would no longer be welcome.
He feared he had waited too long to return.

But when he stepped closer,
he saw something unexpected:
the porch light was on.
The door was slightly open.
Warm light spilled into the darkness.

As he approached,
his mother stepped out and whispered,
“I knew you would come home someday.
So I left the light on for you.”

He broke down.
The door he feared was closed
had been waiting for him all along.

This is God’s heart in Lent.
No matter how far you’ve gone,
no matter how long you stayed away,
no matter what choices you made,
God leaves the door unlocked
and the light glowing.

You imagine God is angry.
You imagine distance creates rejection.
You imagine returning will bring judgment.

But God has only one posture toward you:
Welcome.
He waits like a Father watching the road.
He keeps the door open in case you return.
He keeps the light on so you won’t lose your way.

Lent is not a season of fear—
it is a season of returning.
And the Father’s house
is not locked.
