Celebrity divorce and the great Instagram lie

Well, it’s been a big week in the world of celebrity divorce after Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum announced their “loving” split to the cries of love being dead. So why is it we feel so viscerally about break-ups like this? Is it because we feel we’ve being sold a lie about what a relationship and a break up looks like? Plus, a radio host’s orgasm story that was a little bit too much to stomach and the atrocity that is Meghan Markle daring to have a grey hair. Zara recommended two pieces from Man Repeller this week, one on love and the beauty of its dullness which you can find here, and another on the concept of a friendship complex which you can find here. If you’re also willing to give Marie Claire a click for that atrocious grey hair article, you can right here. (But don’t tell them we sent you.) And if you haven’t read it, or it’s been a while, check out the history-making Vanity Fair profile of Meghan Markle here. You're so welcome to join the conversation in our Facebook group! Otherwise, you can find us on Twitter, Mich on Insta here and Zara on Insta here. OR get in touch at shamelessthepodcast@gmail.com. And before we go: We're a tiny independent podcast so we would love it if you could leave us a review so other people can stumble on our show. This episode was produced by Zara McDonald. Hi hi!Today on the show! Former NRL player (and former Bachelor) Luke Bateman has inked a two-book deal with a major publishing house, and it’s ruffled some feathers over on BookTok. What is it about this deal that’s got people so mad? Is this a byproduct of a suffering publishing industry, or is the whole thing being blown out of proportion? Big thanks to Woolworths for making this episode of Shameless possible – save time and money on your weekly shop thanks to the Woolworths app. On today’s show, Gil recommended The New York Times’ Daily Crossword. Zara recommended Cher on Desert Island Discs, and ‘E.l.f Beauty Acquires Hailey Bieber’s Rhode Skin for $1 Billion’ from Business of Fashion.  And here’s ‘The Curse of Influencer Publishing’ in The New Statesman.  This episode was produced by Eilish Gilligan. Breaking the fourth wall (twice)

Breaking the fourth wall (twice)

Hello hello!Today on the show: founder of Odd Muse, Aimee Smale, is copping it for claiming her label is ‘slow fashion’. The allegedly false claim is one thing, but the whole conversation got us thinking about something else: in the year 2025, is it still an advantage to build businesses in the public eye? Also – Mich is back!!!!!!  Huge thanks to the Victorian Government for making this episode of Shameless possible. Yep, it’s Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. We’re unpacking their unique relationship arrangement and how that Oscars slap really came to pass.  Just a content note up top, there’s a brief mention of child abuse and addiction in this episode.
