In this episode, we explore how melatonin supplementation goes far beyond its traditional role in controlling reproduction in sheep. Recent research shows that melatonin influences key physiological processes such as metabolism, immunity, oxidative balance, and stress regulation. These effects translate into practical benefits on farm, including improved fetal development, stronger neonatal adaptation, better lamb growth and survival, and higher-quality colostrum. In addition, melatonin can positively impact milk yield, milk composition, and udder health, while also helping animals use energy more efficiently by reducing unnecessary stress responses. Altogether, melatonin emerges as a valuable management tool to enhance flock productivity and animal wellbeing in modern livestock systems.
