Day 21 The Broken Compass

Day 21 The Broken Compass

DAY 21 — THE BROKEN COMPASS

A hiker relied on an old compass he had used for years.
But one day, as he wandered through unfamiliar woods,
the compass needle spun in circles—
never settling, never pointing north.

Confused, he shook it again and again,
but the needle kept drifting,
as if it had lost its truth.

Frustrated, he finally met a forest ranger
who examined the compass and said,
“It’s too close to a metal object.
Anything magnetic nearby
will confuse the needle.”

Only then he realized—
the metal flask in his backpack
had been pulling the needle off course the entire time.

The compass wasn’t broken.
It was distracted.

Your conscience is your compass.
It knows where “north” is.
It knows the difference between right and wrong.

But certain “magnetic fields” confuse it:
resentment,
pride,
fear of people’s opinions,
old wounds,
unchecked desires,
emotional attachments.

Suddenly, the needle of your heart spins—
not because God abandoned you,
but because something else
is too close.

Lent invites you to identify the “metal flask”:
What influence is pulling your heart
away from its true north?

A distracted compass will always lead you astray.
A purified compass will always lead you home.
