Growing a VA Business in a Niche Market with Jane Scroggs

Growing a VA Business in a Niche Market with Jane Scroggs

What does it take to grow a successful VA business in a specialised industry? In this episode, I’m joined by Jane Scroggs, founder of Beam Virtual Property Support and Eave Assistants, to talk about her journey from solo VA to agency owner, the challenges of scaling, and how she developed a niche in the property sector.

Jane Scroggs leads two successful VA agencies specialising in property support, managing a combined team of 25 virtual assistants. We dive into the challenges of recruitment, maintaining a strong team culture, and why Jane believes in proactively headhunting the right associates.

Jane opens up about the highs and lows of running a VA agency, her approach to leadership, and how she’s structuring her business for long-term success, without sacrificing balance and freedom.

Key Takeaways:

  • Building a niche VA agency requires deep industry knowledge and a proactive approach to recruitment.

  • Finding the right associates is key. Headhunting can be more effective than traditional hiring.

  • Scaling successfully means stepping away from client work and focusing on leadership and business development.

It takes resilience, focus and commitment to run a successful business, there’s a lot to take away from my conversation with Jane.

If you're considering scaling your VA business, start by identifying your niche and defining the kind of team you want to build. Look at your current workload and pinpoint areas where outsourcing could help you grow.

About Jane:

Jane leads Beam Virtual Property Support and Eave Assistants, two property-focused VA agencies with a combined team of 25 virtual assistants. They handle tenancy admin, maintenance and project management for landlords and letting agents, streamlining processes, reducing compliance risks and freeing up time for portfolio growth.

Before founding Beam in 2020, Jane worked in the property industry as an executive assistant in London and Monaco, and helped develop Podville, a shipping container office project in Bristol. Her extensive property experience naturally led her to niche in supporting UK property professionals.
