Petaflop Power on Your Desk: Decoding the DGX Spark, 'The World's Smallest AI Supercomputer'

The DGX Spark is incredibly powerful, boasting the kind of performance that once required access to pricey, energy-hungry data centers. Nvidia calls it "the world’s smallest AI supercomputer". The system is capable of delivering a petaflop of AI performance—meaning it can perform a million billion calculations each second. It can handle AI models with up to 200 billion parameters.

Under the hood, the Spark comes equipped with Nvidia’s GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, along with 128GB of unified memory and up to 4TB of NVMe SSD storage. It runs from a standard power outlet and is described as being quite tiny.

The introduction of the Spark could help democratize AI and is expected to be particularly useful for researchers. When the machine was first announced (then called Digits), Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that placing an AI supercomputer on the desks of every data scientist, AI researcher, and student empowers them to engage and shape the age of AI.

Nvidia began selling the DGX Spark this week, with orders starting Wednesday, October 15th. While the unit was initially revealed to cost $3,000, it now appears the DGX Spark will cost $3,999. A variety of similar models are expected on the market, as third-party manufacturers are encouraged to make their own versions. Companies such as Acer, Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, and MSI are all debuting customized versions of the Spark. For instance, the Acer Veriton GN100 is also listed at $3,999.

We also note that the Spark has a larger sibling, the Station, though there is currently no word on if or when that model might hit the general market.
